Three years have passed since the conflict between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted on April 15, 2023.
In Sudan, which is facing a humanitarian crisis described as "the world's worst," approximately 14 million people have been forced to evacuate domestically and internationally since the outbreak of the conflict, and even now, 11 million people are unable to return. Tens of thousands, and some estimate up to 400,000 casualties, have been reported, and famine has been confirmed in the Darfur and Kordofan regions.
Three years is not a short time. Among the children, some have grown up deprived of the opportunity to learn. People have been driven from their homes, lost family and loved ones, separated without saying goodbye, and deprived of their livelihoods.
The prolongation of this suffering is due to foreign involvement, such as military support for the RSF from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but this is largely unknown in Japan.
We earnestly ask you to listen to the voices from Sudan and widely disseminate them. An NGO working locally will hold a statement announcement and press conference.
We will explain in an easy-to-understand manner what is happening in Sudan and what we can do, even for those who are learning about it for the first time. Participants will also be invited to fold hibiscuses, the symbolic flower of Sudan, from origami and write messages on them.
