*Note: In principle, figures are rounded to the second decimal place, so the total may not be 100%.*
45.4% have experienced forgetting to drop off dry cleaning
First, we asked if respondents had ever forgotten to drop off dry cleaning that they intended to take.
The results showed that 15.7% had forgotten "many times," 27.7% "a few times," and 2.0% "just once." Thus, 45.4% of respondents, to varying degrees, had forgotten to drop off dry cleaning.
On the other hand, 54.7% had "never" forgotten.
Furthermore, we asked those who had forgotten to drop off what specific items they had forgotten.
What items did you forget to drop off?
* Dress shirts, jackets (20s, male) * Winter coats and ski equipment (20s, female) * Kimono (30s, female) * Uniforms (30s, female) * Mourning attire (40s, female) * Futons (40s, female)
In addition to everyday items like dress shirts and jackets, respondents mentioned items that are not used frequently but are needed at specific times, such as winter coats, kimonos, mourning attire, and futons.
Seasonal items and formal wear, in particular, may be noticed for dirt or wrinkles just before use.
To prevent forgetting to drop off, it seems important to set a schedule, such as before seasonal wardrobe changes or events, and check items collectively.
12.3% have experienced forgetting to pick up dry cleaning
Next, we asked if respondents had ever forgotten to pick up dry cleaning that they had dropped off.
The results showed that 2.7% had forgotten "many times," 6.3% "a few times," and 3.3% "just once." In total, 12.3% of respondents had experienced forgetting to pick up.
On the other hand, 87.7% had "never" forgotten.
Although the percentage is smaller compared to forgetting to drop off, it is still clear that over 10% of people have forgotten items they had left at the cleaners.
32.4% forgot to pick up for over a month at the longest
So, for how long did people forget to pick up their dry cleaning at the longest?
We asked those who had forgotten to pick up for how long they had forgotten at the longest.
The most common response was "within 1 month" at 40.5%, followed by "within 1 week" at 27.0%.
On the other hand, "within 3 months" was 5.4%, "over 6 months" was 10.8%, and "over 1 year" was 16.2%. In total, 32.4% of respondents forgot for over a month.
This suggests that cases can extend beyond a few days of forgetfulness and even span across seasons.
"Forgetting due to daily busyness" was the most common reason at 48.5%
Next, we asked those who had forgotten to drop off or pick up the reasons why it happens.
The most common reason was "forgetting due to daily busyness" at 48.5%.
This was followed by "forgetting that I had dry cleaning" at 26.5%, "not having time to go during business hours" at 23.5%, and "finding it a hassle to carry, so postponing it" at 22.8%.
Additionally, "not feeling the need until the season changes" accounted for 18.4%, and "other" accounted for 5.1%.
The background to forgetting to drop off or pick up seems to be daily busyness and difficulty in finding time.
It is evident that many people know they need dry cleaning but postpone it due to being busy with work or housework, and then forget about it.
Furthermore, comments such as "not having time to go during business hours" and "it's a hassle to carry" indicate that going to the store itself is a burden.
79.4% believe delivery dry cleaning would "reduce" forgotten items
Finally, we asked if respondents thought that delivery dry cleaning services, which handle pickup and delivery at home, would reduce forgotten drop-offs and pick-ups.
The results showed that 39.7% thought it would "significantly reduce," and 39.7% thought it would "somewhat reduce," totaling 79.4% who responded that it would "reduce." On the other hand, only 16.2% thought it would "not change much," and 4.4% thought it would "not change at all."
Approximately 80% of those who have experienced forgetting to drop off or pick up items feel that a system where pickup and delivery are completed at home would make them less likely to forget.
By eliminating the need to coordinate schedules to go to the store, it becomes easier to use dry cleaning services amidst busy daily lives.
We asked for reasons why they thought it would reduce forgotten items, and here are some examples:
Reasons why it would reduce forgotten items:
* Because I don't have to go out of my way. (20s, female) * Because it will be automatically delivered when the time comes. (20s, female) * Because it solves the hassle of dropping it off. (20s, female) * If it can be done at home, I won't forget. (30s, male) * Because it saves the trouble of picking it up. (30s, female) * Because it's delivery, they'll contact me even if I forget. (40s, male)
Responses included reasons such as eliminating the hassle of going to the store to drop off items and the burden of picking them up.
Many people feel that if the process can be completed at home, they will need to adjust their schedules less to drop off dry cleaning, which will help prevent forgetting to drop off or pick up.
Additionally, some expressed a sense of security from the automatic delivery and the ability to receive notifications.
Delivery dry cleaning is perceived as an option to reduce forgetfulness due to busyness and to use dry cleaning services more easily.
Summary
This survey revealed that 45.4% of dry cleaning users have experienced "forgetting to drop off" and 12.3% have experienced "forgetting to pick up." The reasons behind this include "daily busyness" and "the hassle of carrying items," suggesting that forgetfulness is not solely due to individual carelessness.
Furthermore, 79.4% of those who have experienced forgetting to drop off or pick up items believe that an improvement can be expected with a system where pickup and delivery are completed at home.
If you find yourself unable to find time to go to the store or tend to postpone tasks, why not consider delivery-based dry cleaning services, where you can drop off and pick up items from the comfort of your home, as one of your options?
