Do Men Feel Self-Conscious About Penis "Length" or "Size"?

Concerns about the male body are often difficult to discuss with others. Among these, the "length" and "size" of the penis is likely a topic that is hard to bring up even when one is concerned about it.

In recent years, a treatment method called "penis enlargement surgery" to lengthen the penis has become known. So, how do men, the individuals concerned, perceive these worries and treatments?

Therefore, in collaboration with MS Clinic, we conducted a survey targeting 300 men aged 20s to 50s on "Concerns about Penis Size and Interest in Penis Enlargement Surgery."

30.7% Responded "Yes" to Having Felt Self-Conscious About Penis "Length" or "Size."

First, we asked men in their 20s to 50s if they had ever felt self-conscious about the "length" or "size" of their penis.

As a result, 10.0% answered "often" and 20.7% answered "sometimes," totaling 30.7% who had experienced feeling self-conscious.

On the other hand, 41.3% answered "not at all," and 28.0% answered "hardly ever."

It was found that approximately 30% of men have experienced feeling self-conscious about their penis "length" or "size."

Concerns about appearance and size are themes that are easily compared with others, so it seems a certain number of people have at least thought about it.

55.4% Cited "When Undressing in Front of Others at Places Like Hot Springs, Public Baths, or Saunas" as a Situation Where They Feel Self-Conscious.

Next, we asked those who had felt self-conscious about their penis "length" or "size" about the situations where they primarily felt this way.

The most common answer was "When undressing in front of others at places like hot springs, public baths, or saunas," at 55.4%.

This was followed by "Sexual intercourse or situations with a partner" at 54.3%, and "When comparing myself to others or the media" at 26.1%.

The most frequent situations were "When undressing in front of others at places like hot springs, public baths, or saunas" and "Sexual intercourse or situations with a partner."

In both cases, these are situations where one's body is easily compared to others, which seems to be a trigger for becoming conscious of their complexes.

It suggests that even if they don't usually mind, many people become conscious of their size and appearance in situations where they are concerned about the eyes of others.

75.0% Responded "I Keep the Worry to Myself Without Consulting Anyone."

Next, we asked those who had felt self-conscious about their penis "length" or "size" if they had ever consulted anyone about their concerns.

The most common answer was "I keep the worry to myself without consulting anyone" at 75.0%.

This was followed by "Researched on the internet (did not consult anyone)" at 17.4%, "Consulted a medical institution/clinic" at 4.3%, and "Consulted a partner or friend" at only 3.3%.

It was found that many people do not consult anyone about their complexes.

Because it is a delicate issue, many people feel it is difficult to confide in not only family and friends but also their partners.

Furthermore, while some people research information online, very few consulted medical institutions, which are professional bodies.

It suggests that many people are living with their worries alone, unsure of where to turn for help.

52.0% Answered "Completely Unaware" of Penis Enlargement Surgery.

Next, we asked men in their 20s to 50s if they were aware of "penis enlargement surgery," a treatment method to lengthen the penis.

Penis enlargement surgery is a medical procedure aimed at improving penis length.

As a result, over half, 52.0%, answered "completely unaware."

"Have heard the name" was 43.7%, and "know the treatment details" was 4.3%.

Even if they have heard the term "penis enlargement surgery," few people fully understand the treatment details.

It suggests that even if they are interested, they do not have sufficient opportunities to access accurate information.

14.7% Expressed "Interest (Would Like to Try/Consider)" in Penis Enlargement Surgery.

Next, we asked men in their 20s to 50s if they were "interested in penis enlargement surgery (would like to try it/consider it)."

As a result, 3.0% answered "very interested" and 11.7% answered "somewhat interested," totaling 14.7% who showed interest.

On the other hand, 19.7% answered "not very interested" and 65.7% answered "not at all interested."

Although the number of interested individuals is not yet large, a certain number are considering penis enlargement surgery as a positive option.

As concerns and values vary from person to person, it is important to know the methods that suit you and make a decision with conviction.

61.4% Cited "Regaining Self-Confidence" as an Expectation for Penis Enlargement Surgery.

Next, we asked those who answered "interested (would like to try/consider)" in penis enlargement surgery what they would expect from it.

The most common answer was "Regaining self-confidence" at 61.4%.

This was followed by "Resolving appearance-related complexes" at 45.5%, and "Positive impact on the relationship with a partner" at 38.6%.

The results show that the desire to live positively with confidence, not just physical changes, is a major reason.

Penis enlargement surgery is considered as one of the options to meet these individual concerns and hopes.

Top Expectation for Those Interested is "Regaining Self-Confidence," Top Concern is "Cost/Fees."

Next, we asked those who answered "interested (would like to try/consider)" in penis enlargement surgery about their concerns when considering it.

The most common answer was "Cost/fees" at 77.3%.

This was followed by "Pain during surgery/procedure" at 59.1%, "Physical burden and scarring" at 54.5%, and "Whether it will actually be effective" at 47.7%.

We also asked for specific reasons for their concerns and present some of them below.

What is your biggest concern and why?

* Will it really be effective? I wouldn't want to undergo the procedure and not see any change. (30s, Male) * Pain and side effects after the procedure. I'm scared. (30s, Male) * Currently, it's the cost and physical burden. (30s, Male) * If it costs more than 10,000 yen, I can't afford it. (40s, Male) * What about failure or sequelae? (50s, Male)

"Cost," "pain," and "effectiveness" were frequently cited concerns.

Looking at the reasons, concerns about post-procedure effects, cost burden, and whether effectiveness can truly be achieved were prominent.

It seems that people are not necessarily denying penis enlargement surgery itself, but rather want to fully understand and be convinced about the procedure and its costs before making a decision.

It highlights the need for an environment where people can make choices that suit them while resolving their anxieties and doubts.

49.3% Cited "Clarity of Fees/Payment Plans" as Important When Choosing a Clinic.

Next, we asked men in their 20s to 50s what factors they prioritize when choosing a clinic for penis enlargement surgery.

The most common answer was "Clarity of fees/payment plans" at 49.3%.

This was followed by "Treatment methods with less pain and physical burden (e.g., non-incisional procedures)" at 46.0%, and "Doctor's expertise/extensive case experience" at 34.0%.

The results show that people prioritize not only cost but also treatment methods and the doctor's experience when choosing a clinic.

To consult with peace of mind, it is important to compare clinics that clearly explain fees and treatment details and choose a medical institution that suits you.

What Men in Their 20s-50s Feel About Penis Enlargement Surgery and Penis-Related Complexes.

Finally, we asked men in their 20s to 50s for their thoughts on penis enlargement surgery and penis-related complexes.

Please write freely anything you feel about penis enlargement surgery or concerns about your penis size.

* It's too small. (30s, Male) * I'm concerned about the safety of penis enlargement surgery. (30s, Male) * I don't know anyone who has had it, so I can't trust it. (30s, Male) * Surgery is scary. (40s, Male) * Will the pain not subside? (40s, Male)

Voices such as "safety is a concern" and "I can't trust it because there's no one around who has experienced it" were heard, indicating that many people feel anxious due to a lack of information.

When information is scarce and there are few decision-making materials, it is difficult to take a step forward even if one has concerns.

Therefore, receiving accurate information and thorough explanations from a reliable clinic may be the key to resolving anxieties and making choices that are right for oneself.

Summary

In this survey, 30.7% of men reported having felt self-conscious about their penis "length" or "size."

Furthermore, 75.0% of them "keep the worry to themselves without consulting anyone."

Also, over half of respondents answered "completely unaware" of the treatment method, penis enlargement surgery, indicating that it is not yet widely recognized.

While delicate concerns tend to be kept to oneself, it is important to first access accurate information and have opportunities to consult in a way that feels comfortable.

If one can find a clinic where fees and treatment details are clearly explained and where they can speak with peace of mind, their options for addressing their concerns may expand.
