Renovation/New Build Door Selection: 47% Decide Based on 'Contractor Suggestions'; 24% Would Change the 'Design' If They Could Start Over

## How Experienced Homeowners Choose Fixtures and How They Feel Now

When building a home, "fixtures"—such as doors, sliding doors, shoji, and fusuma—quietly influence comfort and room atmosphere, even if they aren't the main focus like walls or floors. Because these are handled daily, homeowners often struggle with how to choose them and whether they might regret their decisions.

To address this, we conducted a survey on "Japanese-style fixture selection and satisfaction" in collaboration with Kamon Tategu Kogei, which designs and crafts store and Japanese-style fixtures. The survey targeted 88 men and women nationwide who had experience in introducing or changing fixtures during renovations or new builds.

## 46.6% Chose Fixtures Based on 'Contractor Suggestions'

"Contractor suggestions" was the most common method at 46.6%. This was followed by "selecting from ready-made products myself" at 25.0% and "consulting with family" at 19.3%. Conversely, "custom-made" accounted for 5.7% and "others" for 3.4%.

## 'Design' Was the Top Priority for Those Choosing Custom-Made

When we asked those who chose "custom-made" what they prioritized most, "design" was the top answer at 60.0%. This was followed by "size" and "harmony with the room/space" at 20.0% each.

When asked which part they would redo if they could, changing the "design" was the most common response at approximately 24%.
