Roof maintenance is essential for keeping a home comfortable and durable for a long time.

Among these, roof painting not only improves appearance but also plays a vital role in protecting the building from wind, rain, and UV rays.

However, many people may be unsure about "when to repaint" or "how much it will cost."

Therefore, in collaboration with Kanou Co., Ltd., we conducted a survey on "roof painting consideration" targeting 300 men and women nationwide who had previously responded that they "live in a detached house."

"Survey on Roof Painting Consideration" Overview

Survey method: Internet questionnaire

Survey period: April 22, 2026 - April 30, 2026

Target respondents: Men and women nationwide who responded in a preliminary survey that they "live in a detached house."

Valid responses: 300 samples

Questions:

Question 1: Have you ever considered roof painting for your home?

Question 2: What are your reasons for wanting (or considering) roof painting? (Multiple answers allowed)

Question 3: Do you have any concerns about carrying out roof painting?

Question 4: Please tell us your specific concerns about carrying out roof painting.

Question 5: Please tell us the reason for that concern.

Question 6: What do you want from a contractor when proceeding with painting work?

■ 35.3% responded that they have "experienced or considered" roof painting

First, we surveyed whether respondents had ever considered roof painting for their homes.

The results showed that 27.7% had "already carried it out" and 7.7% had "considered it," totaling approximately 35.3% who had experience or considered roof painting.

On the other hand, 64.7% responded "no," indicating that more than one in three detached house residents have at some point considered roof painting as a viable option. Roof painting appears to be a common maintenance task involved in maintaining a home.

■ 73.6% responded that the reason for carrying out or considering roof painting was "concerns about roof deterioration"

Next, we surveyed those who had carried out or considered roof painting about their reasons.

The most common reason was "concerns about roof deterioration (fading, moss, rust, etc.)" at 73.6%.

This was followed by "wanting to improve durability" at 50.9% and "worried about leaks/wanting to improve waterproofing" at 41.5%.

This suggests that while visible deterioration is a trigger, people are also conscious of functional aspects such as durability and waterproofing. Roof painting is not just a repair but is considered a preventative maintenance measure that looks at the overall lifespan of the home.

■ 51.9% responded that they have "concerns" about carrying out roof painting

So, what kind of anxieties do people have when actually deciding to proceed with roof painting?

We asked those who had carried out or considered roof painting if they had any concerns.

51.9% responded "yes" and 48.1% responded "no," indicating that approximately half of the respondents have some kind of anxiety about roof painting. More than half of those who have experienced or considered roof painting make decisions while feeling anxious.

■ 58.2% responded that their anxiety about roof painting was "not knowing if the cost is appropriate"

We surveyed those who responded that they had concerns about what specific points they were anxious about.

The most common concern, exceeding half, was "not knowing if the cost is appropriate (unknown market price)" at 58.2%.

This was followed by "worried about shoddy workmanship/quality" at 18.2% and "concerned about additional costs" at 7.3%.

・I don't know if the estimate is really correct. (40s, male)

・I had a bad experience with a contractor; the painting was sloppy, and the price was high. I regret it and don't want to remember it. (50s, female)

Those who responded "worried about shoddy workmanship/quality":

・I'm troubled by the difficulty of obtaining paint and worried about shoddy work. (40s, female)

・Last time I had painting done, there were uneven spots, which made me anxious. (50s, female)

・Previously, when I requested roof painting, the paint peeled off due to raindrops from the upper roof to the lower roof.
