■ Which is more reassuring for exterior wall painting: when you are away from home or when you are present?
Exterior wall painting is one of the essential maintenance tasks for prolonging the life of your home.
However, when it comes to hiring a contractor, many people may wonder whether to have the work done while they are away from home or while they are present.
There is an option to proceed with the work during long holidays such as Golden Week, or to supervise the work daily while interacting with the craftsmen at home. While each has its advantages, the anxieties and concerns also differ.
Therefore, in collaboration with Nuriake Shop, we conducted a survey targeting 300 men and women nationwide who responded in a preliminary survey that they "currently live in a detached house they own," asking about "exterior wall painting while away from home" and "exterior wall painting while present."

*As a general rule, percentages are rounded to the second decimal place, so the total may not always be 100%.
■ 65.0% responded that they "feel anxious or resistant to exterior wall painting while away from home."
First, we asked whether people felt anxious or resistant to exterior wall painting work while away from home during long holidays such as Golden Week.
As a result, 34.0% said "feel very much so" and 31.0% said "feel somewhat so," totaling 65.0% of people who felt some kind of anxiety or resistance.
On the other hand, 17.0% said "don't feel much" and 18.0% said "don't feel at all," meaning a total of 35.0% of people had little resistance to work during their absence.
We asked for the reasons for each response, and here are some of them.
Reasons for feeling anxious or resistant:
・Regardless of the exterior wall painting contractor, I don't like outsiders entering my property while I'm away from home. (Female, 30s)
・I don't know what might happen while I'm away from home. (Male, 40s)
・Scaffolding seems like it could lead to burglaries. (Male, 50s)
Reasons for not feeling anxious or resistant:
・Because they don't enter the house. (Male, 30s)
・Even if it's a long holiday, it's short, so I have no particular anxiety. (Male, 40s)
・Rather, it's less stressful if they do it while I'm not there. (Female, 50s)
Many of those who felt anxious or resistant cited two main reasons: "crime prevention" and "inability to confirm construction quality." In particular, concerns about scaffolding being erected for a long period while away from home and worries about shoddy work being done unseen were prominent.
On the other hand, those who did not feel anxious said things like "they don't enter the house" and "it's less stressful."
■ 48.2% responded that "consideration for crime prevention" is what they seek when absent.
Next, we asked those who felt anxious or resistant what would make them feel secure enough to entrust the work even when they are absent.
The most common response was "consideration for crime prevention" at 48.2%.
This was followed by "daily progress reports" at 43.6%, "construction photo reports" at 41.5%, "clear explanation of contract details and process" at 38.5%, and "direct contact with the person in charge" at 35.4%.
It is clear that resolving anxieties about crime prevention is crucial for work done during absence.
Many also requested daily progress reports and sharing of construction photos, indicating that visible confirmation of the work in progress leads to a sense of security.
Explanations of contract details and processes, and a system for direct contact with the person in charge are also requested. To entrust work during absence, crime prevention measures and information sharing are essential.
