## 60.3% responded that "earthquake resistance" is the most important factor for an ideal home.

First, we asked what was most important when considering an "ideal home."

As a result, "earthquake resistance" was the most common at 60.3%.

This was followed by "price" at 45.1% and "insulation performance" at 42.6%.

The top priorities were items related to the "foundation of living" such as safety, comfort, and cost, rather than design or appearance. It seems that an ideal home can only be realized when the foundation supporting daily life is solid.

We asked about the reasons for each, and here are some examples.

Respondents who answered "earthquake resistance":

* I bought a house, but I don't know when an earthquake will strike, so earthquake resistance is the most important thing to consider. (Female, 40s)

* Earthquake resistance is absolutely necessary in Japan today. (Male, 30s)

* I wanted to be prepared for a direct-hit earthquake. (Female, 40s)

Respondents who answered "price":

* There are many points I can't compromise on when living there myself, but first, I decide the price and then determine everything around it. (Female, 30s)

* Because an ideal home is one with good cost performance and a convenient environment. (Female, 30s)

* Even if it's inexpensive, a sturdy and comfortable one is good. (Female, 40s)

Respondents who answered "insulation performance":

* Because it's the place where I spend the most time, and I think it affects the quality of life. (Female, 30s)

* My current house is cold in winter due to cold air coming up from the floor. (Male, 40s)

* Because it can reduce heating and cooling costs. (Male, 50s)

It was striking that many voices expressed anxiety about earthquakes. As Japan is an earthquake-prone country, the earnest desire for an "undamageable house" when building or choosing a home is palpable. On the price front, realistic voices stood out, indicating a desire to proceed with house building based on a budget.

Regarding insulation performance, it is understood that this is a key factor directly linked to daily comfort, such as reducing utility costs and countering the cold in winter.

## 10.0% responded that they "have struggled" to consolidate family requests.

Next, we asked if they had ever struggled to "consolidate the requests of each family member" when choosing or building a house.

As a result, 10.0% answered "yes" and 90.0% answered "no."

We asked what aspects were difficult, and here are some examples.

What aspects were difficult?

* I wanted more rooms with a normal-sized living room, but my husband insisted that the living room had to be large. (Female, 40s)

* It gets expensive if you want all the good things. (Male, 40s)

* It was troublesome when my partner and I didn't agree on the floor plan or room assignments. (Male, 50s)

* Deciding on the floor plan and room assignments, which rooms to take.
