First, we asked if they had ever felt anxious about bicycle theft or vandalism. The result was 53.2% saying "yes" and 46.8% saying "no." More than half of the people have experienced anxiety, indicating that anxiety about theft and vandalism is widely shared among those who regularly use bicycle parking lots. Furthermore, we asked if they had actually been a victim of bicycle theft or vandalism. The result was 45.5% saying "yes" and 54.5% saying "no." Approximately one in two people has experienced some form of damage, suggesting that not only anxiety but also actual damage is a common problem. ■ The most common reason for anxiety or damage was "anxiety even with a lock" at 63.4%. Next, we asked those who answered "yes" to feeling anxious or having been a victim, the reasons for it. The most common answer was "anxiety even with a lock" at 63.4%. This was followed by "anyone can enter and exit freely" at 61.0%, and "it's dark at night" at 41.5%. The results show that individual measures like locking are not enough to fully alleviate anxiety. Also, the high percentage for "anyone can enter and exit freely" suggests that many people feel uneasy about the structure and management system of the bicycle parking lot itself. The characteristic of bicycle parking lots allowing free entry and exit, while convenient, may be contributing to security concerns. ■ The most common current security measure is "surveillance cameras" at 51.9%. Next, we asked all regular bicycle parking users what security measures were in place at their current bicycle parking lot or parking lot. The most common answer was "surveillance cameras" at 51.9%. This was followed by "bright lighting" at 35.1%, "fences or enclosures" at 35.1%, "permanent attendants/staff" at 27.3%, and "bicycle racks/locking facilities" at 23.4%. On the other hand, "gate-type entry/exit control" was 7.8%, "IC card authentication" was 7.8%, and "number authentication" was 5.2%, remaining low. While basic crime prevention measures like cameras and lighting are somewhat in place, systems to manage people entering and exiting have not yet become widespread. Security types that authenticate and manage users seem to be limited to some bicycle parking lots at present. ■ 87.8% responded that their sense of security would "change" with a management system using authentication.
