Taiwan is facing a severe labor shortage crisis in the F&B and retail sectors due to declining birth rates. Singapore-based gig work platform Flexii has rapidly grown since entering Taiwan just 1.5 years ago, surpassing 150,000 registered users. Flexii has formed a deep cross-industry partnership with iPASS Corporation, fully integrating digital payment systems to officially launch an innovative 'work completed, get paid instantly' model. Workers can now receive their earnings via iPASS MONEY immediately after finishing a shift.

Lin Kuang-ta-lang, CEO and co-founder of Flexii, explained that the platform was created to address corporate labor shortages, complicated scheduling, and workers' desire for flexible and immediate compensation. The platform returns scheduling autonomy to workers. Through AI screening and salary advance systems, major brands such as La Cabana and Wego Group have joined the platform.

Lin stated that Flexii, founded in Singapore, identified a growing need: businesses struggling with labor shortages and complex shift management, while workers seek greater time flexibility and instant payment. This insight led to the introduction of this innovative workforce matching service. Globally, Flexii has accumulated over 200,000 registered workers, with Taiwan's user base rapidly exceeding 150,000, making it Flexii's core and fastest-growing market.

Flexii's management describes the platform as the 'Uber Eats for gig workers,' aiming to streamline traditional recruitment processes such as interviews and resume writing. Instead, employers post job opportunities and workers offer their labor and skills, matching online.

Flexii Offers AI Interviews + Salary Advances as a New Solution to F&B and Retail Labor Shortages

To address employers' concerns about worker screening, Flexii has introduced an AI interview system. The system automatically asks job seekers about their past experience in F&B, retail, or related fields for initial screening. The platform also provides AI training, helping gig workers upgrade their skills to the next level after completing initial shifts.

For businesses, Flexii's biggest advantage lies in 'salary advance and payment processing' and 'automated payroll settlement.' Gig workers clock in and out directly via the Flexii platform, and the backend system automatically records attendance and calculates wages. Flexii adopts a business model where it advances daily wages to workers and then consolidates billing to companies the following month. This eliminates the need for large F&B and retail groups to spend manpower on daily gig worker payroll calculations. Flexii earns its primary revenue through a platform service fee.

Regarding labor relations concerns, Flexii's management emphasizes that although the platform acts as a mediator, its system strictly complies with labor laws. For example, hourly wages must not fall below the minimum wage, weekly working hours and overtime limits are enforced, and statutory holidays are paid at double rates. When a worker is successfully matched with a business, a part-time labor contract with labor insurance protection is legally established.

Flexii Returns Scheduling Autonomy to Workers, iPASS Invests NT$10 Million in Incentives

Flexii's management explains, 'Traditionally, scheduling power lies with employers, but Flexii's platform model returns scheduling autonomy to workers.' This combination of instant payouts and high autonomy has led many workers to stay on the platform even when offered full-time positions by businesses. Others prefer to avoid responsibility-based environments where 'after work truly means off-duty,' no longer needing to constantly monitor LINE messages from supervisors.

Currently, Flexii's partner businesses in Taiwan include well-known groups such as La Cabana, Muji, and Wego Group, primarily in industries facing severe labor shortages: F&B, retail, events, and logistics. Lin noted that Taiwan, like Japan and other Asian countries, faces challenges from aging populations and low birth rates. Taiwanese people have high acceptance of this flexible work model, resulting in growth rates surpassing other markets—an astonishing achievement.

In this partnership, iPASS Corporation has boldly allocated an initial marketing budget of NT$10 million to help Flexii convert approximately 50,000 iPASS MONEY verified users. iPASS CEO Cheng Kai-yin stated they are open to increasing investment.

Looking ahead, Flexii's management revealed that while the platform is currently only open to nationals, due to the extreme labor demand in logistics and warehousing hubs like Taoyuan, government agencies such as the Taoyuan City Government have actively reached out. They hope to legally expand this service model to foreign workers in the future, alleviating Taiwan's overall labor shortage and making job seeking and flexible employment a more intuitive life experience in Taiwan.
