- The continuation rate after 90 days of employment was 70.5%, which is 16.8 points higher than for those hired through general applications.

Retention is a Key Issue Alongside Staff Acquisition in the Caregiving Industry

As the population ages, the demand for caregiving personnel continues to rise, while labor shortages remain a persistent challenge in the caregiving industry. Beyond acquiring staff, there is a growing need to create an environment where employees can continue to work with peace of mind and implement initiatives that promote retention.

The "Survey on the Actual Conditions of Caregiving Labor"*1 conducted by the Public Interest Foundation Kaigo Rodo Antei Center has long cited labor shortages as a challenge for caregiving facilities, and has also pointed out the importance of initiatives to prevent turnover and promote retention.

Against this backdrop, our company analyzed the relationship between hiring channels and employment continuation based on our own caregiving dispatch service's employment data to explore factors that lead to continued employment.

Dispatch Staff Hired Through Referrals from Existing Staff Show a High Trend in Continued Employment

Dispatch staff hired through referrals from existing staff showed a 30-day continuation rate of 91.8%, which is 9.2 points higher than for those hired through general applications. The 90-day continuation rate was also 70.5%, 16.8 points higher, both exceeding the rates for those hired through general applications. A particularly significant difference was observed in the 90-day continuation rate, suggesting that individuals hired through referrals may have more opportunities to deepen their understanding of job content and work styles before starting employment, leading to continued employment.

Average Duration of Continued Employment is Approximately 38% Longer Than for Those Hired Through General Applications

Regarding the average duration of continued employment, dispatch staff hired through referrals from existing staff worked 38.2% longer than those hired through general applications. The difference was observed not only in the continuation rate but also in the duration of employment, indicating a tendency for those hired through referrals to work for a relatively longer period.

Comments from Responsible Person

Based on these results, we believe that individuals hired through referrals often consider employment after hearing about the job content and work style from friends or acquaintances working in caregiving settings, which leads to a sense of security and satisfaction before starting work. Hearing about the reality of the workplace from a trusted, close contact may also be a factor that encourages them to take the job. Furthermore, we believe that being able to share concerns and experiences with friends and acquaintances working in the same industry after being hired serves as a support for continuing employment.

On the other hand, this analysis suggests that it is not necessarily the superiority of the referral system itself, but rather the opportunity to deepen understanding of the job and work style before employment, and the availability of a support system after employment, that leads to continued employment. At our company, regardless of whether the application is through general or referral channels, we provide matching tailored to each individual's hopes and experiences, as well as post-employment follow-up. In our friend referral program, we propose suitable workplaces not limited to the same facility as the referrer, but based on the individual's needs.

In recent years, we have seen an increase in registrations through friend referrals, and we feel this is becoming one of the triggers for new individuals to engage with the industry. We will continue to work on expanding the base of caregiving personnel through employment support that is tailored to each individual.
