Neko Real Estate to Realize 'Kinako-so,' a Women-Only Shared House for Living with Cats in Kumamoto City

Why a 'women-only shared house for living with cats'? In Japan today, many people give up on living with cats because they cannot find housing that allows pets, face hurdles in adopting rescue cats, or feel anxious about living alone with a cat. Meanwhile, many rescue cats are left without a home. We have felt that housing issues are distancing cats from people. According to a 2024 survey by the Japan Pet Food Association, the top reason for not keeping a cat despite wanting to is that their apartment complex prohibits it. We believe 'Kinako-so' can solve these issues. As a shared house, it is designed with cat ownership as a prerequisite, not an exception. Tenants can support each other during long absences. 'Kinako-so' aims to be a space where cats don't have to 'endure' and owners don't have to 'struggle.' We also aim to prevent multi-cat household collapse by fostering connections between cat lovers.
