Rolling out used EV leasing packages nationwide

Narunet Communications Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture; President and CEO: Shinjiro Tanaka; hereinafter "Narunet Communications" or "the Company") has entered into a partnership with NTT-ME Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kei Ikeda), a member of the NTT East Japan Group, to launch a joint project offering leasing packages utilizing used electric vehicles (EVs) under NTT-ME's "Reuse EV Solution" initiative. NTT-ME plans to roll out this service nationwide to a wide range of clients, including local governments and private enterprises across various industries.

Project Significance

The "Reuse EV Solution" project led by NTT-ME aims to simultaneously achieve decarbonization and corporate resilience through the strategic use of used EVs. The initiative emphasizes reducing environmental impact for businesses and municipalities, contributing to a circular economy—including preventing critical resources from flowing overseas—by promoting battery recycling and reuse, and enhancing business continuity planning (BCP) by using EVs as emergency power sources during disasters.

Narunet Communications to Manage Vehicle Lifecycle Operations

In this solution, the Company will serve as the operational core, managing the entire lifecycle from vehicle procurement and product preparation to maintenance and management during operation. Narunet Communications is also considering participation in battery recycling following the lease period.

The Company has supported the development of reliable used EV leasing packages by establishing procurement standards for NTT-ME—including vehicle selection, mileage, and used car auction evaluation criteria—as well as defining standards for refurbishment, conducting verification tests on driving range and performance, and researching battery degradation.

Leveraging its nationwide network of approximately 13,000 affiliated maintenance workshops, Narunet Communications provides outsourced automotive maintenance services and will use this operational infrastructure to ensure quality and reliability after vehicle deployment. The Company will further expand its network of EV-capable partner workshops and consider providing equipment and technical know-how to these facilities as needed, strengthening its overall operational framework.

Overview of the "NTT-ME Reuse EV Solution"

The leasing package selects vehicles meeting specific criteria for mileage and model year, and guarantees a battery state of health (SOH) of 66% or higher. If the SOH falls below this level during the lease term, the vehicle will be replaced at no cost. Leased vehicles will be managed via a system provided by EVolity Co., Ltd., enabling visualization and prediction of battery degradation as well as monitoring and management of vehicle operation status.
