Background and Challenges of Introduction KISHIYA Co., Ltd., one of Kyushu's leading comprehensive medical trading companies, had been using a WMS from a major IT manufacturer for many years as the core system for its "KISHIYA Logistics Center," which manages tens of thousands of medical materials and advanced surgical equipment. However, the maintenance and renewal costs presented at the system's renewal period were twice the estimated amount, forcing them to review the cycle of huge investments every few years. In addition, it was difficult to reflect on-site requests in the system due to the high cost of customization, and manual work outside the system (external operation) was increasing, which was a major challenge that increased the burden on on-site staff.
Reasons for APT's Selection While other vendors were reluctant due to the "complexity of medical logistics" and "tight deadlines," APT was selected as a partner due to the following strengths:
Optimization of TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) looking 10 years ahead: With its independently developed WMS with a flexible architecture, APT demonstrated overwhelming optimization of total costs, including not only initial costs but also maintenance and renewal costs for the next 10 years.
Proposal capabilities and accompanying attitude that are close to the現場: APT was highly evaluated for its ability to respond immediately with "we will make it in time" even with a tight schedule, and its attitude of thinking together from the現場's perspective on "how to achieve it" rather than dismissing it with "that's an option."
Introduction Effects and Future Outlook Currently, it is in the final adjustment phase for full operation, but a "cycle of proactive improvement" has already been created within the company, such as reflecting on-site voices in each screen of the handy terminal. KISHIYA plans to use this WMS as a base to "renew aging automated warehouses," "optimize inventory by integrating data from all bases," and "reduce labor by linking with the latest material handling technology" in the future, aiming to evolve its logistics department from a cost center to a "strategic base." APT will continue to strongly support its progress.
