Over 60% value texture when eating food/dishes. Preferred textures are "crispy, crunchy" (nearly 60%), "chewy, springy" (approx. 45%), and "crunchy, brittle" (approx. 36%).

When eating food/dishes with their favorite texture, people feel "increased satisfaction" and "happiness" (each over 40%), and "want to eat it again" (approx. 35%). Those who answered their favorite texture is "fluffy and melty" had a higher rate of feeling "happiness."

MyVoice Communications Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Shintaro Shimizu) conducted an internet survey on "texture" from June 1 to 7, 2026.

The survey asked about preferred textures, importance of texture, and feelings experienced when eating foods with favorite textures. We are pleased to announce the results.

◆ Importance of Texture

Over 60% of people value texture when eating food/dishes, combining those who "value it" and "somewhat value it." The proportion is high among men in their 70s and women in their 60s-70s, and low among men in their 10s-50s.

Those who do not value texture (total of "do not value it" and "not very much value it") account for 10%, with men in their 10s-30s each showing slightly higher rates of around 20% compared to other groups.

◆ Foods/Dishes Chosen by Valuing Texture

Foods and dishes often chosen by valuing texture (multiple responses) include "snacks, crackers/rice crackers, nuts," "breads," "noodles," "fried foods," and "rice dishes/rice bowls," each around 30%.

Among men, "noodles," "rice dishes/rice bowls," and "breads" were top. Among women, "snacks, crackers/rice crackers, nuts," "breads," "fried foods," "noodles," and "cookies/biscuits" were top.

◆ Favorite Textures

Regarding favorite textures (multiple responses), "crispy, crunchy" was the highest at 58.2%, followed by "chewy, springy" at 45.2%, and "crunchy, brittle" at 36.1%.

Many items showed higher proportions among women, with particularly large gender differences for "chewy, springy" and "fluffy and mealy." "Crispy, crunchy" was higher among women and younger age groups, while "crunchy, brittle" and "chewy, springy" tended to be higher among women in their 40s-50s. "Crisp, fresh" was slightly higher among those in their 70s.

◆ Feelings Experienced When Eating Food/Dishes with Favorite Texture

When asked about feelings experienced when eating food/dishes with their favorite texture (multiple responses), "increased satisfaction" and "happiness" were each over 40%, and "want to eat it again" was 34.8%.

For those who answered their favorite texture was "elastic/chewy" or "juicy," the rate of feeling "increased satisfaction" was high. For those who answered "elastic/chewy" or "crunchy/firm," the rate of feeling "satisfying to chew" was high.

For those who answered "fluffy and melty" or "smooth, creamy," "special/luxurious feeling" and "soothing, relaxing" were high. Also, for "fluffy and melty," the proportion of "happiness" was high.
