[Survey Overview]

◆ The most common place to meet a partner is 'workplace/part-time job'. Over one in four people in their 20s met through 'matching apps'.

When asked about how they met their partner, 'workplace/part-time job (27.3%)' was the most common overall, similar to the previous year. On the other hand, 'matching apps (19.5%)', which had been on an upward trend until the previous year, decreased. In contrast, 'introductions from acquaintances/friends (19.1%)' increased by 4.5 percentage points from the previous year. By age group, 'matching apps (26.5%)' was the most common for people in their 20s. [Figure 1]

[Figure 1]

74.2% of people in their 20s with a partner have a desire to marry.

Among men and women with partners, 56.5% expressed a desire to marry, exceeding half. By age group, people in their 20s had the highest rate at 74.2%, followed by 30s at 56.1% and 40s at 39.7%, indicating that younger generations have a higher desire to marry.

Many people in their 20s who desire marriage expressed sentiments such as "I love my partner and want to be with them forever," "I want children and a partner to raise them with," and "I want an absolute ally in life," suggesting an awareness of seeking love, a future vision, and emotional security in marriage. On the other hand, some also said, "My married parents seem happy," and "When I hear stories of people spending time with their families, it seems fulfilling," indicating that the desire to marry is influenced not only by current romantic relationships but also by family images and primary experiences seen in the past. ◆ For a 'marriage' commemoration, 'wedding ceremony' is the most popular among people in their 20s at 53.8% (up 5.5 percentage points from the previous year). There is a tendency for diverse celebration methods as age increases.

When asked what they want to do to commemorate 'marriage', 'having a wedding ceremony' was 53.8% among people in their 20s, an increase of 5.5 percentage points from the previous year. This is more than 10 percentage points higher than those in their 30s, suggesting that many young people want to commemorate their marriage with a 'wedding ceremony'. While wedding ceremonies are still popular among people in their 30s and 40s, the proportion choosing other celebration methods, such as 'dining together as a couple', is increasing. As age increases, there is a tendency for diverse celebration methods to be chosen, not limited to wedding ceremonies. [Figure 4]

[Figure 4]

◆ The average joint savings with a partner is 4.402 million yen. The awareness of saving is expanding from 'anxiety about old age' to 'preparation for life events'.

The average joint savings with a partner, saved for two people, was 4.402 million yen, an increase of 830,000 yen from the previous year.

Regarding the purpose of saving (for personal use or joint savings with a partner), 'preparation for old age (46.0%)' was the most common, but it slightly decreased from the previous year. Meanwhile, 'hobbies/recreation (31.6%)' (up 5.1 percentage points from the previous year) and 'wedding funds (20.4%)' (up 2.1 percentage points from the previous year) increased. In particular, 'preparation for major events (29.6%)' saw a significant increase of 5.2 percentage points from the previous year.

These results suggest that more people are saving based on anticipated life events within the next few years. The awareness of saving is expanding from long-term preparation to a more realistic and purpose-driven direction, in addition to long-term preparation. [Figures 5, 6]
