MW Inc. (Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo; Co-Founder & CEO: Shuzo Narita; “MW”) announced that it has been selected for the Physical AI Development Support Program by AWS Japan, provided by Amazon Web Services Japan G.K. (“AWS Japan”). With this selection, MW will move into full-scale development and implementation of physical AI for residential spaces. MW is a startup aiming to realize “Living Home,” a residence that perceives its environment, understands and judges situations, and acts autonomously through the fusion of architecture, AI, and robotics. Many homes currently called “smart homes” remain limited to remote control of home appliances via IoT, with all operations still premised on human input. They also face a structural issue in which apps are fragmented by manufacturer, making it impossible to centrally control the entire home. MW aims to create a truly autonomous living space in which the home itself perceives the environment through sensors and AI, makes context-aware decisions, and executes optimal actions on its own. The company will also build a system that centrally manages fragmented devices and services through an integrated application, seamlessly connecting every function in the home. Rather than extending conventional smart homes centered on remote appliance control or simple automation, MW seeks to evolve the home itself into an intelligent space. Although housing is one of the physical spaces where humans spend the most time, it has been among the slowest areas to be transformed by software and AI. Physical AI development has so far advanced mainly in industrial applications such as manufacturing and logistics, but demand for labor-saving and automation in living spaces is rapidly increasing amid declining birthrates, aging populations, and labor shortages. MW’s approach is to address these issues through “residential physical AI.” Residential physical AI refers to a technology system in which AI autonomously perceives and understands the environment in a home, makes decisions according to the situation, and carries out real-world actions through physical means such as robots. MW’s work does not start from improving the functions homes currently provide. Instead, it begins with the question: “What should the home of the future be like if it incorporates the evolution of every technology?” The company has been working to redefine the very concept of housing. This selection recognizes those efforts not as a mere concept, but as a technically implementable field, positioning MW as a pioneer in the new domain of residential physical AI. MW is developing AI robots that operate in residential spaces, as well as AI systems that integrate spatial understanding, decision-making, and action execution. Specifically, in addition to AI robots that operate inside homes, MW is developing robot foundation models, including Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, based on data obtained from sensors and cameras inside residences. This will enable AI to understand spatial conditions, make context-aware decisions, and connect them to physical actions. Through integration with robotic systems, MW will redesign home functions such as cleaning, security, energy management, and caregiving support so they no longer depend on human operation. Using this selection as a catalyst, MW will leverage AWS Japan’s cloud infrastructure and technical support to strengthen its end-to-end development pipeline for residential physical AI, from data collection and preprocessing to model development, simulation, and implementation in real environments. MW is taking on the challenge of integrating architecture, software, and hardware to implement a globally unprecedented “future home” originating from Japan. Full-scale implementation of physical AI in housing has few examples worldwide, and the field is currently at a stage where the direction of the technology itself can be defined. At the same time, because housing is a space everyone uses every day, MW believes the social impact of transforming it will be extremely significant. With this selection, MW is further strengthening its development organization in physical AI and residential robotics, and is seeking teammates to lead this challenge together. The company welcomes talent moved by ambitious challenges. Open positions include Head of Hardware Engineering, Semi-Humanoid Team, responsible for the hardware development division for semi-humanoid robots and overseeing everything from mechanical design to actuator and sensor integration and mass-production design; Lead Machine Learning Engineer, Foundation Model Team, leading development of robot foundation models such as VLA and VLM and driving ML pipeline construction and optimization using AWS; and Robot System Engineer, leading development of robot control systems in residential spaces, including robot motion planning, environmental perception, and integration with smart home systems. In addition to the above, MW is recruiting robot control engineers, cloud infrastructure engineers, hardware engineers, and other roles. The Physical AI Development Support Program by AWS Japan, launched in January 2026, supports development in the physical AI domain. It targets companies and organizations with a legal entity or base in Japan that develop robot foundation models, including VLA, on AWS. The program provides an environment combining cloud infrastructure and specialized technical support for the full process required for physical AI development, from data collection and model development to simulation and implementation in real environments. It supports development from both technology and implementation perspectives through computing resource support, knowledge sharing among engineers, and opportunities to connect with adopting companies.
