"Arashiyama Cormorant Fishing," a summer tradition in scenic Arashiyama, has a history of over a thousand years. It is a traditional fishing method that has captivated nobles since ancient times, and it is said that Emperor Seiwa (reigned 858-876) also watched it. Suiran offers the accommodation plan "Kagaribi" with "Arashiyama Cormorant Fishing" viewing and the restaurant plan "Natsukagari," inviting guests to enjoy a unique summer evening in Arashiyama, from dinner to cormorant fishing.
Dinner will be an innovative course meal at the hotel's restaurant "Kyo Suiran," blending the aesthetics of Japanese and French cuisine. You can savor each dish that expresses the summer of Arashiyama, using plenty of seasonal ingredients such as ayu (sweetfish), hamo (pike conger), and kiyuzu (green yuzu).
After your meal, you will be guided to a viewing boat on the Hozugawa River flowing below the hotel. From the boat, you can witness the traditional fishing method up close, with cormorant handlers skillfully controlling the reins against the backdrop of the river illuminated by bonfires. Immerse yourself in the realistic atmosphere unique to being on a boat and enjoy a magical summer night where a thousand years of history still breathes.
Furthermore, on August 16 (Sun), an optional plan to view the "Kyoto Gozan Okuribi" (Five Mountains of Kyoto Fire Festival) from a private Suiran houseboat will be available. Enjoy a special moment while feeling the cool breeze from the river and leisurely watching the "Daimonji" character appear on Mt. Nyoi, accompanied by drinks such as wine, beer, and ramune.

About "Arashiyama Cormorant Fishing"
Cormorant fishing on the Hozugawa River (Oigawa River) was enjoyed by aristocrats during the Heian period, and it is said that cormorant fishermen belonging to the Imperial Kitchen Department supplied ayu (sweetfish) to the palace from Arashiyama.
Currently, cormorant fishing is a summer tradition in Arashiyama, held for two and a half months from July 1st each year, and is enjoyed by many tourists. In the evening, cormorant handlers wearing eboshi (hats) and koshimino (straw skirts) board two cormorant fishing boats illuminated by bonfires and appear from upstream with their cormorants. Cheers erupt from the audience each time a cormorant catches an ayu, creating a summer evening atmosphere along with the eternal nature.
