Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reports that the Ebola outbreak in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is spreading at an unprecedented rate. The organization urges an immediate expansion of testing capacity and a significant increase in humanitarian aid. MSF emphasizes that community trust and active participation are essential to curb the spread and save lives. Alain Gonzalez, MSF Deputy Operations Director, stated, 'Two weeks have passed since the declaration of the Ebola outbreak in Ituri, and the situation is extremely critical. There is no precedent for so many cases being confirmed in such a short period.' This outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which there are no approved vaccines or treatments, and diagnostic tools are limited. Closures of borders and airports are also delaying aid. MSF stresses that expanding testing capacity and building trust through dialogue with local communities are urgent priorities.
