Mouser Begins Distribution of ROHM Semiconductor's "RPR-0730" Photo-Reflector

(Headquarters: Ukyo-ku, Kyoto; hereinafter "ROHM"). This product is an analog optical sensor capable of high-precision detection of fast-moving objects in consumer and industrial equipment.

The "RPR-0730" available at Mouser is an ultra-compact optical proximity sensor that utilizes a proprietary 940nm infrared IrVCSEL as a light source, combined with a high-speed phototransistor as the light-receiving element. This configuration achieves superior directivity and lower power consumption compared to conventional LED-based solutions. It enables high-speed, high-precision detection, making it suitable for applications where traditional digital output types struggle, such as print detection in multifunction printers and label printers, as well as rotation detection for motors and gears. Furthermore, by adopting an analog output phototransistor as the light-receiving element, it achieves a response time of 10μs and can accurately identify fine lines as narrow as 0.1mm, demonstrating performance that exceeds conventional LED light sources.

The "RPR-0730" features an ultra-compact package (2.0 × 1.0 × 0.55 mm³) and uses resin that cuts visible light to minimize interference from ambient light and sunlight. This allows for stable detection even in environments with changing lighting conditions, such as in factories or outdoors. Additionally, its small size allows for easy integration into devices with limited installation space, such as conveyors and precision equipment, enabling support for a wide range of applications.
