■ Background of the Initiative

While farmland has been on a long-term declining trend, particularly in urban areas, community farms used by general citizens (non-farmers) for leisure and food education are on the rise. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' survey on community farm openings※, as of March 2025, there were 4,273 farms nationwide with a total area of 1,284 ha. Of these, the three major metropolitan areas of Kanto, Kinki, and Tokai alone account for approximately 80% of the total number of farms nationwide, with the Kanto region accounting for 50%. Despite high demand for community farms in urban areas, there is a shortage of actually available farms. The "Mos Lending Farm Project" was born from this need for community farms and is a new initiative adopted by Mos Food Services' internal new business creation project "Challenging 01." Through this project, we aim to create new value that connects "agriculture," "food," and "community."

■ Future Prospects of This Project

The "Mos Lending Farm Project" will also serve as a "model farm" to visualize urban farmland utilization models. It aims to create new touchpoints with local farmers and landowners and to verify the potential for future expansion of a farmland network. In the future, we aim to create a new system that circulates "growing," "eating," and "connecting with the community," with the potential collaboration of Mos Burger stores, Mos's partner farmers, and Mos Farms nationwide. Specifically, we will pursue the possibilities of Mos's unique "food and agriculture circulation model," such as resource recycling using vegetable scraps from cut vegetables generated at stores, initiatives with stores using vegetables and flowers grown on the farms, and the creation of experiential opportunities connecting production sites with customers. As a new challenge to expand the "food" and "agriculture" assets that Mos Burger has cultivated beyond its stores, we will work to bring "eaters" and "growers" closer together and create spaces where people gather and connect with the community.

■ About Takashimadaira Green Space and Collaboration with Itabashi Ward

In March 2025, Itabashi Ward formulated the "Takashimadaira Green Space Redevelopment Policy," indicating a direction to "create a green and rich place that is the pride of Takashimadaira" while leveraging the "uniqueness of Takashimadaira Green Space." This time, the "Mos Lending Farm Project" has been adopted as a trial sounding for the effective utilization of Takashimadaira Green Space, leading to the birth of "MOS FARM Tokyo Takashimadaira Farm." We position "MOS FARM Tokyo Takashimadaira Farm" as a "test farm" to verify the potential of future urban lending and experiential farm businesses. Applications for lending farm plots are scheduled to begin sequentially from June 2026.

Mos Food Services signed a "Comprehensive Partnership Agreement on Regional Revitalization, etc." with Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, the birthplace of Mos Burger, in May 2023, to mutually cooperate in areas such as child-rearing, next-generation development, and tourism promotion. "MOS FARM Tokyo Takashimadaira Farm" will also include spaces that can be used for events, such as experiential farm areas that are not plot rentals. By encouraging wide use by local residents, we plan to develop programs for child-rearing and next-generation development.
