Morita Miyata Industries Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; President and CEO: Osamu Isogai) announces the development of "Flawless," a PFAS※-free synthetic surfactant foam fire extinguishing agent compatible with foam fire protection systems for parking facilities. Sales will commence in July 2026.
※PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are synthetic organic fluorine compounds. Certain PFAS, including PFOS, PFOA, and PFHxS, are regulated internationally under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs Convention) and are subject to strict restrictions in Japan under the Chemical Substances Control Law, which prohibits their manufacture and import and limits their use.
1. Background and Overview
Foam fire extinguishing agents are commonly used to combat oil fires caused by flammable liquids such as gasoline and oil (non-water-soluble) in parking facilities. Conventional foam agents contain PFAS to enhance fire suppression performance. However, due to growing concerns about human health and environmental impacts, global regulations on PFAS-containing products are tightening. In Japan, while existing PFAS-containing foam agents already installed may still be used under specific conditions, concerns are rising about securing alternatives as these systems reach replacement age and ensuring stable future supply. Therefore, developing PFAS-free alternatives has become an urgent priority.
To address this challenge, we have developed a PFAS-free foam fire extinguishing agent that achieves both high environmental compatibility and excellent fire suppression performance. This product is effective not only against oil fires caused by flammable liquids such as gasoline and oil (non-water-soluble) but also against ordinary fires involving combustible solids like wood and paper. By introducing this product, we aim to eliminate supply uncertainties associated with existing foam agents, maintain reliable fire suppression capabilities, and contribute to safe and secure business operations.
2. Features
・High Fire Suppression Performance
We have developed a proprietary "Precision Interface Control Technology" (patent granted) that leverages the synergistic effects of multiple surfactants to form a dense and robust interfacial film on the surface of flammable liquids. This technology ensures rapid spreading of foam over the fuel surface and excellent reignition prevention. Additionally, the foam exhibits high stability and heat resistance, delivering performance comparable to aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF), despite being PFAS-free.

・Broad Fire Type Compatibility
This agent is effective against Class B fires (flammable liquid fires) caused by gasoline, oil, and similar non-water-soluble fuels, as well as Class A fires (ordinary combustible fires) involving wood, paper, and similar materials. Suitable for low-expansion to high-expansion applications, it can be used in a wide range of scenarios, including spill fires of flammable liquids and warehouse fires.
<Class B Fire (Oil Fire): Extinguishing Test Using Low-Expansion Foam>
Low-expansion foam rapidly spreads across the fuel surface, effectively suppressing the release of flammable vapors and achieving high extinguishing and re-ignition resistance. This makes it highly effective against fires involving gasoline, kerosene, and other non-water-soluble flammable liquids.
<Class A Fire (Ordinary Fire): Extinguishing Test Using High-Expansion Foam>
High-expansion foam quickly covers the fire area, making it effective for ordinary fires in warehouses and logistics facilities.
・Compatibility with Parking Facility Foam Fire Protection Systems
The product is compatible with our existing foam heads (MFH-35-2) used in parking facility foam fire protection systems, enabling quick and easy integration without major system modifications.
Furthermore, we have extended the maximum installation height for foam heads from the conventional 8 m to 10 m, enabling deployment in large parking facilities and other high-ceiling environments.
・Reduced Freezing Risk
The agent remains effective in temperatures as low as -10°C, significantly reducing the risk of freezing during winter months.
3. Future Developments
We will expand our lineup of PFAS-free foam fire extinguishing agents and develop new products incorporating these agents, contributing to the replacement of PFAS-containing foam agents.
Our company is committed to integrating solutions for social challenges, including environmental issues, into our business strategy, aiming to contribute to a safe, livable, and prosperous society and to become a company that is trusted and valued by society.
