Morisawa Acquires Patent for Technology Enhancing Web Font Delivery Efficiency and Loading Speed in "Morisawa Fonts"

Morisawa Inc. has obtained a patent regarding font delivery technology for its font subscription service "Morisawa Fonts." This patent covers a new mechanism that achieves efficient font delivery and improved display speeds in web production environments.

In web production, challenges often arise regarding delivery speeds due to the increasing number of fonts used and the growing complexity of production and operational environments. To address these customer needs, Morisawa worked on developing technology to "achieve stable font delivery," creating and implementing a proprietary system and filing for a patent.

Conventional web font delivery typically involves loading font information registered in a project all at once as a CSS file. However, if multiple fonts are registered, even unused fonts are loaded, leading to increased data traffic and slower display speeds. The newly patented technology uses client-side JavaScript to identify the types of fonts actually being used on a web page and fetches and applies only the corresponding static CSS (including @font-face rules) on-demand. This suppresses the delivery of unnecessary font data, enabling faster display and efficient distribution.

This feature is available as a "CSS Loader Script" for the Web Font Pro plan. Even for websites using many fonts, it maintains efficient and comfortable display by fetching and delivering only the information for fonts actually in use.
