His 2003 book 'Baka no Kabe' became a bestseller, winning the New Words and Buzzwords Award and the Mainichi Publishing Culture Award Special Prize. Other notable works include 'Yuino-ron', 'Yuigon.', and 'Jinsei no Kabe'. Known as a great insect lover, he established an 'insect mound' at Kencho-ji Temple in Kamakura, where he holds an annual memorial service.
