Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto; Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "MOL") participated as a sponsoring company in CERAWeek 2026, hosted by S&P Global in Houston, USA, from March 23 to 27, 2026. MOL was the only Japanese shipping company to participate in the event.

CERAWeek is recognized as one of the world's largest and most influential international conferences in the energy industry, held annually with over 10,000 participants from energy-related companies and organizations worldwide. Held under the theme "Convergence and Competition: Energy, Technology and Geopolitics," this year's event featured industry leaders and government officials who engaged in dynamic discussions on current trends and developments, including energy landscapes, geopolitics, and AI/digital technologies. Leveraging this opportunity, MOL exchanged views with numerous industry stakeholders regarding the future outlook of the shipping industry, energy strategies, and decarbonization. Additionally, MOL executives, including Senior Managing Executive Officer Suryan Wirya-Simunovic, participated in panel discussions in areas where the company holds significant expertise.

“Asian LNG Demand: Absorbing the next wave” (Center: MOL Senior Managing Executive Officer Suryan Wirya-Simunovic)

This session discussed the role of LNG in light of Asia's economic growth and rising power demand. Suryan Wirya-Simunovic stated, "Natural gas and LNG are energy sources that are difficult to replace and will continue to play a crucial role in supporting Asia's energy supply," while highlighting MOL's expansion into LNG infrastructure projects in addition to LNG transport.

“Sailing to Sustainability: Progressing innovations in the maritime sector” (Second from left: Ana Carolina Siniscalchi, Head of South American Business)

In the session discussing solutions for decarbonizing the maritime sector, Ana Carolina Siniscalchi, Head of South American Business, spoke about MOL's initiatives: "In the short term, we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption by expanding the introduction of LNG-fueled vessels, utilizing the Wind Challenger (a hard sail wind-assisted propulsion system), and promoting efficient operations." She also explained that to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, the shipping industry must adopt optimal fuels and technologies—such as ammonia and methanol—tailored to specific vessel types and trade routes.

MOL will continue to deepen its knowledge and expand its network through conferences that bring together global industry leaders, applying these insights to its core areas of expertise, including energy business and the decarbonization of the shipping industry.
