Kawasui Kawasaki Aquarium (located in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; hereinafter referred to as Kawasui) will hold the "Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine Monthly Fes," an event starring Kawasui's popular "prehensile-tailed porcupine," from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, May 31, 2026.

This is a special Golden Week event that provides an opportunity for visitors to deepen their understanding of the ecology and characteristics of the prehensile-tailed porcupine, linking to efforts that continuously convey its charm through exhibits and experiences.

Please enjoy encountering living creatures at Kawasui, which is "a little different from both an aquarium and a zoo."

## What is a Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine?

The prehensile-tailed porcupine is an arboreal rodent native to South America, characterized by needle-like hair covering its body.
Adapted to living in trees, you can observe unique behaviors such as hanging from branches using a tail capable of grasping objects.
Their personality is relatively mild, and their relaxed movements and adorable gestures are part of their charm.

"Moni," currently exhibited at Kawasui, has an easygoing personality and loves sleeping even more than eating. Because visitors can observe her up close, she is beloved by many.

## Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine Monthly Fes

This project focuses on the prehensile-tailed porcupine, which attracts particularly high attention within the facility, and is an event spanning about one month, including Golden Week.
Visitors can experience the charm of the prehensile-tailed porcupine through a special exhibition explaining its ecology, as well as limited-time food, drinks, and merchandise.
