Modulex Co., Ltd., headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, and led by Representative Director and President Goro Yodo, which operates in the integrated environmental solutions sector, has contributed to The University of Electro-Communications' co-creation hub "e-Nexus" building. This contribution includes lighting design, the donation of 165 lighting fixtures, and the provision of an integrated environmental solution that incorporates an environmental control system. The e-Nexus facility, inaugurated on January 30, 2026, enables flexible integration with various systems, equipment, and sensors through open technology, achieving integrated environmental control that prioritizes comfort, sustainability, and scalability based on design thinking. In recognition of this initiative, Modulex received a letter of appreciation from Shunichi Tano, then President of UEC (now Advisor to the President), at the e-Nexus building completion ceremony. During the ceremony, President Yodo delivered remarks on improving the research environment and conducted an environmental control demonstration. He introduced the addressable lighting system installed in the facility, explaining that each fixture has an individual address and can be controlled via open communication protocols. He also highlighted that the system provides an environment where researchers and students can design and verify control logic through APIs. The subsequent demonstration showcased a control concept that utilizes AI to optimize the relationship between "human comfort" and "energy consumption." It demonstrated the potential for environmental control to achieve both ergonomic considerations and energy efficiency by dynamically adjusting the light spectrum and centroid in sync with external light changes. The lighting fixtures used in this system have a proven track record in large-scale international projects and central government facilities in Japan, ensuring a high-standard research environment at the national university. Modulex and UEC are engaged in industry-academia collaboration, with Goro Yodo having been appointed Visiting Professor at UEC on July 1, 2023. He collaborates with UEC's i-Powered Energy System Research Center on initiatives such as the social implementation of energy management. The e-Nexus co-creation hub is dedicated to accelerating international academic research and industry-academia-government collaboration by focusing on the research and demonstration of UEC's advanced energy technologies. The entire building has achieved ZEB Ready certification and serves as an advanced demonstration site for establishing a "co-creation evolutionary autonomous distributed energy network." The facility is open to UEC students and faculty, local communities, and industry partners. Modulex Co., Ltd., established on August 3, 1973, with a capital of 157 million JPY, has developed diverse technologies to create comfortable environments, starting from lighting design for buildings and commercial facilities. The company offers "Integrated Environmental Solutions" that encompass environmental control (lighting, air conditioning, video, sound, aroma) and energy problem-solving for buildings.
