ZENB JAPAN Co., Ltd. (Handa City, Aichi Prefecture; hereinafter "ZENB") and Mizkan Holdings Central Research Institute (Handa City, Aichi Prefecture; hereinafter "Mizkan Central Research Institute") are focusing on food functionality research to realize "the health of people, society, and the earth."

In this study, we focused on the functionality of yellow peas, which are attracting attention as a superfood, and conducted a clinical trial using pasta made from whole yellow peas, including the thin skin (Yellow Pea Pasta: YPP, hereinafter "yellow pea pasta"). As a result of the research, it was confirmed that consuming yellow pea pasta improves feelings of fatigue and sleep quality. These findings were announced at the 79th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of Nutrition and Food Science (Dates: May 23-25, 2025, Venue: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture). This research is a joint study with FMCC Co., Ltd., the Graduate School of Medicine at Osaka University, and the Graduate School of Life and Medical Sciences at Doshisha University.

Research Background and Purpose In recent years, approximately 80% of modern people are aware of experiencing some form of fatigue*1, making fatigue countermeasures a socially important issue. The primary cause of fatigue is considered to be oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species generated in the body, and we have previously revealed that the consumption of yellow pea pasta improves human oxidative stress*2. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the impact on feelings of fatigue and sleep quality when yellow pea pasta is incorporated as a staple food.
