*1: Educational Dormitory... While a standard student dormitory mainly serves a residential function, this is a boarding facility premised on educational involvement, such as life guidance and learning support through communal living.
*2: Community-Commons... A shared space where students, and students and faculty, can gather to interact, learn, and co-create. A place that promotes community building and individual growth through diverse activities and communication.
Realizing large-scale wooden architecture contributing to a decarbonized society with Mitsui Home's 'MOCX' technology
The facility is planned as a large-scale wooden building designed to reduce the environmental load during construction and operation, utilizing Mitsui Home's wood technology brand 'MOCX'. Using the high-strength load-bearing wall 'MOCX WALL', it achieves an overwhelmingly large space and high durability despite being wooden. Based on the philosophy of 'If you build with wood, the city becomes a forest,' this project is a symbolic initiative towards realizing a decarbonized society. It presents new value as a next-generation wooden architecture fusing environmental performance and construction technology.
Forming a 'Community-Commons' that generates interaction through the warmth of wood and open design
Inside the facility, NLT (Nail Laminated Timber) (*3) will be used for the floor structure of the 2nd and 3rd floors, creating a flat and beautiful ceiling space. The ceiling finish will also feature wood, designed so the warmth of wood can be visually experienced. Additionally, a dining hall, lounge, shared kitchen, and multi-purpose studio will be arranged around a courtyard, creating an open spatial composition that takes in natural light and wind. Furthermore, an open stairwell with intersecting sightlines will be installed to promote natural communication among students. As a second commons following the 'Learning Commons (*4)' established on campus for independent study, it will create an environment where learning and connections are born in daily life.

Global talent development through a co-creation process involving students and 'study abroad within the dormitory'
Looking ahead to operations after completion, this project also involved listening to students' real voices through workshops. In the workshops held in 2025, under themes like 'Ideal Self' and 'Ideal Dormitory Life', the gap with the current situation and challenges were analyzed, and concrete proposals regarding the nature of interactions and spatial usage were made. These results are planned to be reflected in future dormitory operations. Furthermore, by preparing an environment for 'study abroad within the dormitory' where Japanese and international students live together, it promotes natural international exchange in everyday life. As a co-creative educational space utilizing student initiative, it will contribute to the development of global talent.
