Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management Receives Special Award at Newsweek Japan SDGs Awards 2025

Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo / President and Representative Director: Ryo Sugiyama) is pleased to announce that it has received a Special Award at the "Newsweek Japan SDGs Awards 2025".

This award recognizes companies and organizations that practice excellent initiatives towards the realization of a sustainable society. The Special Award, newly established this year, is presented for "SDGs initiatives that have been developed and continued over a long period," selected by the editorial department of Newsweek Japan.

The award was given in recognition of our initiative, "HAPPY SMILE ART in Mitsui Garden Hotels," which has been ongoing since 2021, featuring exhibitions by artists with disabilities utilizing hotel lobbies.

【Reason for Award】 From the Judges' Comments

Art activities by people with disabilities are still not widely recognized in Japan, and support for them is limited to a few companies and organizations. Amidst this, we have been creating opportunities for many people to encounter such works by holding special exhibitions in our hotels across various locations. We have made efforts to discover artists living in regional areas, and we have evaluated the fact that the total sales of artworks and financial returns to the artists have been increasing year by year. We are also progressing with multilingualization of artwork descriptions and special web pages for international guests. We hope that by leveraging the advantage of operating dozens of hotels throughout Japan, support for disability art will continue to expand in the future.

To put it plainly, the SDGs Awards were established with the desire to "shine a light on sincere initiatives that may seem modest but can serve as a reference for other industries and companies." In particular, the "Special Award" recognizes initiatives that have been developed and continued over the long term. Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management's project perfectly aligns with this criterion and is an interesting case study in terms of effectively utilizing hotels as "spaces." It was also impressive to witness the sincere attitude of Chairman Masaru Sukebe, who represented the company at the award ceremony's talk show, when he addressed the question about "the expected roles and possibilities for the hotel and tourism industry in co-creation with people with disabilities and in creating inclusive events and spaces."
