Edward Gorey (1925-2000), a picture book author with a mysterious worldview and detailed monochrome line drawings, has enthusiastic fans all over the world. In Japan, his picture books such as "The Doubtful Guest" and "The Gashlycrumb Tinies" have been introduced one after another. In addition to his primary works (Primary Books) where Gorey himself handled both text and illustrations, he also demonstrated diverse talents by working on illustrations, covers, stage designs, and posters for plays and ballets. This exhibition will feature original drawings from his primary works and unissued picture books, as well as posters and publications, to unravel the secret messages embedded in his works.
