"For everyone who knows what it means to struggle to live—"
I truly believe it was good that I wrote this book.
And when I first thought about writing it, one thing came to mind above all else:
I hoped that someday this book could become something like a protective charm for you.
There are inevitably difficult days in life.
There are days when you can't push yourself, days when you want to run away.
On days like that, it's okay to run away.
That's how I've lived my life too.
(From the book)
Rion, a member of the 2.5D idol group "Stofuri," who also actively works as a solo artist, voice actor, and creator, releases his first full-length autobiographical book on the 10th anniversary of Stofuri's formation.
This book chronicles the entire life journey of Rion, a 2.5D idol who has led the forefront of pop culture for a decade—his search for self-identity, meeting his greatest companions, finding a place where he can live, and his relentless fight to become his "true self."
His struggles with family, abandoned dreams, repeated farewells to friends, and the days spent confronting his gender dysphoria, along with the joy and responsibility of continuously basking in the spotlight as "Rion"—this is a confessional memoir documenting Rion’s 28-year journey, which made him an irreplaceable star of a new era.
In this era, where all values are fragmented and everyone is searching for their "true selves," Stofuri and Rion are creators who command immense support from young people desperately trying to survive in difficult times.
At the same time, the author Rion himself has also lived earnestly in this era, striving to reconnect with the "true self" he had gradually lost, facing the desire to disappear, and moving forward with a life-or-death resolve.
It is precisely because of this that the book is filled with sincere, honest, small yet powerful messages and feelings that are sure to reach readers.
The cover illustration for the regular edition is an original artwork by popular manga artist Hisashi Kuse.
It expresses the book’s concept: "The present self acknowledging and embracing the past self."
To you who feel you can't be ordinary. To you tormented by being different from others.
To you suffering in your relationships with family or school.
To you who mutter each day that you didn't do well enough today.
To you who regret again that you couldn't raise your authentic voice today.
To you who are in darkness so deep it makes you lose sight of the meaning of living—
May this message reach all of you who know what it means to struggle to live.
