Permanent Exhibition "Computers and Nature, Nature of Computers"

The National Museum of Nature and Science (Miraikan, Director: Chieko Asakawa) will partially renew its permanent exhibition "Computers and Nature, Nature of Computers," comprehensively supervised by media artist Yoichi Ochiai, who also worked on the Expo's signature pavilion "null2" for the Osaka-Kansai Expo Series Second Edition. The renewed exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday, April 1, 2026. This renewal will see the two central symbolic exhibits, "Computers and Nature" and "Nature of Computers," refreshed. Additionally, two new exhibits will be unveiled: one utilizing generative AI, which learns the structure of language from vast amounts of text through "Large Language Models," and another applying naked-eye 3D stereoscopic vision.

The permanent exhibition "Computers and Nature, Nature of Computers" was first opened in November 2019, posing the question of how our perception of nature and the world will change in a future where computers and artificial intelligence (AI) have become highly advanced. Through the evolution of digital devices, software, and methodologies, the resolution of the worlds they create is beginning to exceed the limits of our perception. This exhibition interprets the state where the boundaries between nature and artificial objects blur, and digital and analog mutually enhance their characteristics, as the "new nature" for our future. It presents this worldview through numerous exhibits that challenge everyday common sense.
