The Japan Private Railway Association (Secretariat: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Takehiro Sugiyama) has been participating in the Keidanren's Commitment to a Low Carbon Society (now the Carbon Neutral Action Plan) since 2013, advancing decarbonization efforts. In November 2022, we formulated a new 'Vision for 2050 Carbon Neutrality' and established targets for fiscal year 2030. We are pleased to announce that we have achieved our FY2030 target of a '46% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to FY2013 levels' (total operating electricity for the 16 major private railway companies*) in fiscal year 2024, six years ahead of schedule. Regarding the setting of new future targets, we will carefully consider them while taking into account the trends of the government, Keidanren, and the circumstances of our member companies. Recognizing that railways are a transportation mode with an extremely low environmental impact and can contribute to reducing total national emissions, the Japan Private Railway Association is actively promoting initiatives that contribute to modal shifts. In particular, since 2023, we have conducted a joint environmental awareness poster campaign with the JR Group and others for three consecutive years to promote the environmental superiority of railways. The entire railway industry, not just private railways, is working together toward carbon neutrality. Furthermore, in 2024, we began distributing manga and videos that explain eco-friendly railways in an easy-to-understand manner, aiming to encourage people to actively choose railways as a means of transport. With the achievement of this target, we will continue to put even more effort into these initiatives to promote modal shifts. 【Japan Private Railway Association Environmental Initiatives】https://www.mintetsu.or.jp/eco/index.html 【Aiming for Carbon Neutrality with Railways】https://mintetsu-carbon-neutral.jp/
