We are pleased to announce that Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike has accepted an invitation from Mr. Michael R. Bloomberg to participate as a founding mayoral member in the newly launched 'Mayors AI Forum,' spearheaded by the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence (GovEx) (Note 1).
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing economic activities and the way society functions, bringing significant potential to cities, such as promoting economic growth and improving public services. However, for cities, which are key implementation sites for AI utilization, various concerns have arisen regarding its use, risk management, and responses to social impacts. In this context, it is becoming increasingly important for city mayors, who are on the front lines of experiencing the impact of AI adoption, to share their knowledge and experiences in international discussion forums and to reflect the urban perspective.
Based on these principles, the 'Mayors AI Forum' is led by GovEx and supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies (Note 2). It aims to involve mayors from cities worldwide to share practical strategies for AI utilization and exchange opinions with experts and business leaders, thereby shaping international discussions on AI utilization and governance in cities.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been working to improve administrative operations and public services using AI, based on its Tokyo AI Strategy. Leveraging these initiatives and knowledge, Tokyo has now been invited to be a founding member. Through participation in this forum, Tokyo will disseminate its initiatives to the international community, apply knowledge gained from discussions with other cities and experts to its policies, and contribute to creating a city where residents can live more conveniently and securely. Furthermore, by contributing to international discussions on AI utilization and risk management from an urban perspective, Tokyo aims to enhance its presence as an international city.
