MetLife Life Insurance Company, Ltd. (Representative Executive Officer, Chairman, President and CEO: Dirk Oethin) announced its partnership with Global Citizen's first-ever music event in Japan, 'Global Citizen Live: Tokyo,' held on June 18, 2026. Through this collaboration, MetLife emphasized the importance of expanding educational opportunities and the necessity for collective societal engagement and concrete actions.

Global Citizen is an international advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty by addressing social challenges such as lack of access to education and disparities in healthcare access. This event was organized to leverage the power of music and entertainment to raise public awareness of global social issues and inspire tangible actions.

Dirk Oethin of MetLife took the stage at 'Global Citizen Live: Tokyo' as a representative of Global Citizen's partner companies and spoke about expanding opportunities for children through education and sports:

"Today, approximately 250 million children worldwide still lack adequate access to education. This is a challenge no single company can solve alone. Through our partnership with Global Citizen, MetLife is supporting initiatives that expand opportunities for children to learn, grow, and live as their true selves. Today’s event is a reminder that when each of us takes ownership of this issue and translates awareness into action, we can collectively create powerful change."

Prior to the event, Global Citizen hosted a policy dialogue where diverse stakeholders—including government, businesses, startups, and NGOs—exchanged views on global social challenges, including access to healthcare. Dirk Oethin delivered closing remarks at this dialogue, highlighting that health is a foundational element supporting people’s aspirations and futures, and stressed the importance of cross-sector collaboration and turning dialogue into action on issues such as education:

"As a life insurance company, our goal extends beyond providing financial protection. We aim to support people in living with confidence and building secure futures. Health is a critical foundation for this, deeply interconnected with education and economic opportunity. Addressing these challenges requires collaboration among governments, businesses, and civil society, and turning dialogue into concrete actions."

MetLife is advancing global initiatives to expand opportunities for children worldwide through its global partnership with Global Citizen and support from the MetLife Foundation. The MetLife Foundation has contributed $9 million as a founding donor to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which supports access to quality education and expanded opportunities to participate in sports. In addition to past support for education initiatives, MetLife has consistently promoted participatory campaigns such as the social media challenge 'Footwork for Futures,' launched in collaboration with Global Citizen. This event is a continuation of these efforts, aiming to inspire broader public interest and engagement, and to strengthen momentum for collective action toward solving global challenges.
