D Clinic Investigates New Approaches for Male Menopause; Pelvic Floor Muscle Strengthening Medical Device 'Starformer' Confirmed to Show Statistically Significant Improvements in Menopausal Symptom Score, Core Muscle Mass, and Triglycerides

D Clinic (Tokyo, Shinjuku, Sapporo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka - 6 clinics in total) conducted a survey*1 on the effectiveness of the medical device 'Starformer,' provided as a treatment for concerns such as frequent urination, urinary incontinence, and decreased sexual function, for male menopausal (LOH syndrome) symptoms. As a result, we report that a significant improvement in the AMS score, an international evaluation index for male menopausal symptoms, was confirmed.

■ Survey Background

At D Clinic, we offer 'Starformer' treatments to improve symptoms such as frequent urination, urinary incontinence, and decreased sexual function. During the course of treatment, we received many comments from patients like 'I get tired less easily' and 'I feel my motivation has returned.' Observing improvements in overall physical condition, not just the pelvic floor, we focused on its relationship with male menopause.

For the diagnosis of male menopause, an international evaluation index called the 'AMS score' is used in addition to blood tests. This score is divided into three domains: 'Physical Symptoms,' 'Psychological Symptoms,' and 'Sexual Symptoms.' Muscle mass peaks in the 20s and declines annually, with the rate accelerating from the 50s. Testosterone has the effect of 'increasing muscle mass and reducing body fat.' Therefore, a decline in testosterone due to aging leads to muscle loss, and as metabolism slows, body fat accumulates further. This vicious cycle manifests as male menopausal symptoms such as fatigue, decreased motivation, and increased triglycerides.
