Medii and Teijin Pharma Launch Collaboration in Hypoparathyroidism Field

Medii Inc. and Teijin Pharma Limited have officially launched a project as of May 2026 aimed at the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of hypoparathyroidism, a designated intractable disease. Between November 2025 and April 2026, the two companies conducted a pilot program, establishing a dedicated consultation window within the physician-to-physician consultation service 'Medii E-Consult' and launching a specialized website for doctors. The pilot resulted in 156 case consultations, far exceeding initial expectations and confirming a high demand for expert knowledge. Consequently, the project has moved to full-scale operation to further promote utilization and strengthen support systems. Hypoparathyroidism is a collective term for diseases caused by decreased secretion of parathyroid hormone, leading to low blood calcium and high phosphorus levels. It is a designated intractable disease in Japan, with 352 registered patients as of the end of fiscal year 2024. Symptoms include numbness around the mouth and limbs, and muscle spasms; however, due to non-specific symptoms, diagnosis often takes time. The disease can also affect multiple organs, including the kidneys and cardiovascular system, and may be accompanied by fatigue or psychiatric symptoms. This requires multi-disciplinary coordination, which has been a long-standing challenge. This project was designed by Medii and Teijin Pharma to address these issues. In November 2025, Medii opened a consultation window staffed by a team of expert specialists within 'Medii E-Consult' and launched a dedicated website. This allows for case discussions with experienced specialists in suspected cases or situations requiring multi-disciplinary input. During the six-month pilot, 156 consultations were received from a wide range of medical specialties, demonstrating the high need for rapid access to expert knowledge. In the full-scale operation starting May 2026, both companies will strengthen the promotion of the consultation window and disease awareness activities, aiming to contribute to the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of hypoparathyroidism by ensuring doctors nationwide can access expert insights. Medii E-Consult is developed and operated by Medii as a communication platform for physicians. Responses to consultations are based on the independent medical judgment of each expert specialist and are not influenced by Medii or its business partners, including Teijin Pharma. Furthermore, no specific treatments or tests are inappropriately recommended.
