The Japan Medical Association (President: Yoshiro Matsumoto) has completed the latest issue of 'Health Plaza' and published it on its official website. The featured topic is 'Obesity Disease.'
In this issue, Professor Toshimasa Yamauchi of the University of Tokyo Hospital explains that unlike simple obesity, 'Obesity Disease' is a medical condition that involves at least one health disorder and requires medical weight loss. He outlines factors such as genetics, environment, and psychology, while discussing treatments including diet, exercise, and behavioral therapy, as well as pharmaceutical and surgical options where necessary.
Furthermore, the publication raises a strong warning about the dangers of using obesity drugs by those who do not have the clinical condition. The JMA recommends that individuals with a BMI of 25 or higher who exhibit health disorders should consult a medical institution.
