The Japan Medical Association (President: Yoshiro Matsumoto) announced on March 31st that a video, re-edited from the program "Close-up! The Struggles of Family Doctors ~The 14th Akahige Award Winners~" broadcast on BS Fuji on March 29th, has been released on its official YouTube channel. Watch the video here
The "Japan Medical Association Akahige Award" (hereinafter referred to as the "Akahige Award") was established in 2012 by the Japan Medical Association and Sankei Shimbun to honor physicians who support the lives of local residents with a focus on health in regional medical settings, thereby contributing to the improvement of medical environments and the enhancement of medical activities across the country.
This video introduces the life stories and daily medical practices and activities of the Grand Prize winners of the 14th "Japan Medical Association Akahige Award": Mamoru Kimura, Chairman of the Social Welfare Corporation Rakujukai (Fukushima Prefecture); Masahiro Hayashi, Advisor of Hayashimiyaiin Clinic (Saitama Prefecture); Yu Kawamuro, Chairman and Director of Takadanishiro Hospital (Niigata Prefecture); Akira Izumida, Chairman and Director of Izumida Clinic (Osaka Prefecture); and Yuko Maekawa, Head of the Department of Cardiology at Tokushima Prefectural Miyoshi Hospital (Tokushima Prefecture). The video includes interviews with patients. It also covers the selection committee's proceedings, as well as Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's congratulatory remarks at the awards ceremony and reception held in Tokyo, and the words of encouragement from His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Akishino and His Imperial Highness Crown Princess Kiko to the award recipients.
The Japan Medical Association stated, "Through this video, we hope not only that people will learn that regional healthcare is supported by the steady efforts of award winners like these, but also that many people will be inspired to seek out such doctors as their family physicians."
