In recent years, cases of significant nuisance behaviors (cas-hara) by patients and their families have increasingly become a problem in medical institutions, leading some facilities to independently create manuals to handle such situations.

Recognizing that cas-hara is a serious issue—which, if allowed to escalate, can negatively impact the mental health of responding staff or even pose a risk of physical harm—the Japan Medical Association produced two types of posters last year for display in waiting rooms. This newly released video was produced based on the content of those posters.

The video points out that "violent remarks," "unreasonable demands," "discriminatory statements," and "persistent complaints" within medical institutions may constitute cas-hara. It also appeals to the public that medical care is built on mutual trust, urging everyone to respect each other and work together to eliminate customer harassment.

The Japan Medical Association stated, "With an increasing number of medical professionals suffering from customer harassment, we hope that by having everyone watch this video, understanding will deepen, leading to the elimination of cas-hara."
