■ Project Features
1. Daily Vitality Creation Model
・Rather than an event-based approach, this creates a "daily vitality hub" that operates 365 days a year.
・Generates continuous foot traffic during lunch and dinner hours.
2. Low-Investment, High-Turnover Urban Regeneration
・Utilizing food trucks (mobile shops) allows for flexible operations while keeping initial investment low.
・Creates new business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
3. A Nationally Advanced Model Through Collaboration with Financial Institutions
・The long-term utilization of a regional bank's head office parking lot for a permanent project operated by an urban regeneration corporation is an extremely advanced initiative on a national scale.
■ Background
While the Shirakata area in central Matsue is a historic commercial district, it faces challenges such as population decline and an increase in vacant lots and storefronts. This project aims to improve the value of the area by:
・Improving pedestrian circulation
・Extending visitor stay times
・Creating consumption opportunities
・Promoting visits from younger generations and families
■ Future Outlook
Using this food truck park as a starting point, we will develop:
・Collaborative measures with surrounding shops
・Creation of a nighttime economy
・Integration with local events
・Promotion of new store openings in the Shirakata area by acting as an incubator for food and retail businesses
Through these efforts, we will build a sustainable model for the central urban area.
■ Representative Comment
"This project is a challenge unprecedented in Japan: transforming a space that was previously a static parking lot for a regional bank's head office into a place where people gather and move, over a long-term period of 20 years. We will create a flow of people throughout the day in the Shirakata area, generating lively food-based activity during the day and warm, social time illuminated by lights at night. Through this initiative, we will share a sustainable model for revitalizing central urban areas."
