Maruzen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Yasuhiro Higurashi) introduced renewable energy generation through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) at its Miyoshi factory (Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture) starting March 2026. The Miyoshi factory, which is a key production site for the company's food ingredients, has been working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by converting boiler heat sources from heavy oil A to LNG. This time, solar panels were installed on the building's rooftop via PPA, and a portion of the electricity consumed has been converted to renewable energy generation since March 2026. This is expected to convert approximately 460,000 kWh annually to renewable electricity, reducing CO2 by 250 tons per year. The company has already reduced 160,000 kWh and 88 tons of CO2 annually at its Shin-Onomichi factory, where it has installed its own solar panels, and 60,000 kWh and 32 tons of CO2 at Kui Farm. In the new fiscal year, the company plans to introduce PPA at its Research Institute (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture) and convert the electricity used at its Tokyo Branch (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo) to renewable energy. The company will continue its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the company to achieve its 2030 goal of "46% reduction compared to 2013" as stated in its materiality.
