Marutomo Co., Ltd. (President: Akira Seki, Headquarters: Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture), which contributes to the development of health and food culture through katsuobushi, dashi, and marine resources, announced joint research with Okayama University of Science's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Professor Toru Fukase, Assistant Professor Yukari Nakamura) at the 41st World Veterinary Association Congress.
The 41st World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC2026), held in Japan for the first time in 31 years since 1995, will take place over four days from April 21 to 24, 2026, at the Tokyo International Forum (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo). Marutomo presented its joint research results with Okayama University of Science under the title "Introduction to the Use of Shaved Fish as Pet Food in Japan and Recent Research Findings."
The presentation content included: "Experiment 1: Dogs and cats show high palatability for shaved fish such as katsuobushi, magurobushi, and chicken, and it is effective in increasing their appetite," and "Experiment 2: Dogs not only show high palatability for soft, thick-cut katsuobushi, but owners' enjoyment also improves when they feed it directly by hand as a snack." It is expected that shaved fish, including katsuobushi, will contribute to improving the QOL (*) of both humans and their beloved family pets.
