Maruten Sangyo Co., Ltd. plans to open a new parent-child co-working space called "KODOMOTO" in Nagoya's Sakae district on September 26, 2026.
With the concept of "More and More, With Children," KODOMOTO is a new type of co-working space for parents and children, where parents can work, learn, and interact in a safe environment within the same space, rather than leaving their children elsewhere.
For parents raising children, it is not easy to find time for work, learning, or personal pursuits. It often becomes a choice between leaving children with someone or giving up personal time. In this daily reality, KODOMOTO proposes a new option: "being able to spend time as yourself while being with your child," rather than "being separated from your child."
KODOMOTO aims for a new concept called "work-life inclusive," rather than "work-life balance." It strives for a society where individuals can achieve their own ways of working and learning by gently encompassing work and childcare as part of life, rather than separating them.
Maruten Sangyo has supported the working styles of companies and organizations through office creation and proposals for work environments. At KODOMOTO, they will leverage this expertise to create spaces for the child-rearing generation, aiming for a new co-creation space that connects parents, children, companies, and the community.
Background for the Establishment of KODOMOTO
In recent years, while remote work and diverse working styles have become widespread, places where parents raising children can confidently engage in work and learning are still insufficient.
Especially for families raising young children, even if they want to work, learn, or connect with others, their actions may be restricted due to childcare responsibilities and the challenges of balancing work and parenting.
Furthermore, while the acquisition of parental leave by fathers is progressing, feelings of isolation and career anxiety among fathers are emerging social issues. Child-rearing is a major turning point not only for mothers but also for fathers to re-examine their work and life choices.
It is often thought that balancing childcare and work is difficult, with the belief that "being with children" and "concentrating on work or learning" are incompatible. Recent research suggests that when parents and children spend time in the same space while maintaining an appropriate distance, they can concentrate on their respective activities while being aware of each other's presence.
KODOMOTO will make it possible to achieve things that were previously given up due to having children, under the concept of "More and More, With Children," not only through workplaces where parents and children can work together but also through seminar spaces that are easy to attend with children.
Demonstration Project in Collaboration with Universities and Students
KODOMOTO is collaborating with the Fatawa Lab at Nagoya City University, which has pioneering research achievements in this field, to study the ideal spatial arrangement where parents and children can engage in their respective activities with peace of mind while being in close proximity.
They will verify the comfortable distance and spatial design for parents and children based on user feedback and behavioral data, to achieve both the sense of security from the child's presence and an environment where parents can concentrate on their work or studies.
Additionally, they are participating in the practical career education program "Career Field" conducted by Aichi University. Empathizing with this activity where students learn by tackling real-world challenges of companies, KODOMOTO is considering the utilization of rooftop space and community formation, incorporating the perspectives and ideas of students.
Furthermore, they want to create opportunities for students to consider "working while raising children" as a future career and life design. Dialogue across generations and positions to jointly envision the future of work is also one of KODOMOTO's co-creation goals.
KODOMOTO is not just a facility; it aims to be a co-creation space where universities, companies, communities, and the child-rearing generation learn and challenge together to implement new ways of working in society.

We will continue to consider better operational methods by incorporating user feedback while valuing the creation of an environment where parents and children can feel safe and secure.
From the Representative / Person in Charge
I experienced childbirth in 2024. During my parental leave, I felt anxious about being away from work and a sense that my accumulated career was once again interrupted. On the other hand, the time spent with my child was also irreplaceable, and I felt a sense of discomfort with the "work or childcare" dichotomy.
During that time, with the understanding and support of my company, I was able to experience working while with my child by utilizing options like bringing my child to the office and a half-parental leave system. Through that experience, I came to want to offer the new option of "working as myself while being with my child" to more people.
KODOMOTO is not just a co-working space. It is a project that connects parents, children, companies, communities, and universities to implement new ways of working in society.
We will continue this challenge with the aim of a future where as many people as possible can balance their own way of working and child-rearing.
