The year 2026 is a milestone year, marking the 100th anniversary of the death of the genius architect Antoni Gaudí. In the same year, his unfinished masterpiece to which he dedicated his life, the 'Sagrada Família,' will finally see the completion of its tallest tower, the 'Tower of Jesus Christ.' At this time of unprecedented global attention, we present an introductory book that unravels the magnificent universe Gaudí envisioned.
'Man does not create. He discovers, and from his discoveries, he builds.' As these words suggest, Gaudí's architecture was not born from whimsical intuition alone. By deeply observing the laws and curves hidden in the natural world and employing highly rational structural mechanics such as the 'catenary model' and 'parabolic arches,' he derived unique forms full of vitality.
This book traces his footsteps from a sickly childhood spent in observation, through his encounter with a good patron, to his later years when he abandoned personal desires to devote himself to the construction of the cathedral. It provides detailed explanations, accompanied by current photographs and diagrams, of everything from the intricate structure of the 'Sagrada Família' to the numerous World Heritage sites that adorn Barcelona, such as 'Casa Milà' and 'Park Güell.' It is an accessible volume for those new to Gaudí's world, as well as for those who wish to immerse themselves once again in its profound logic and beauty.
