On June 27, 2026, during Paris Fashion Week, Maison Kitsuné unveiled its third collection under Creative Director Abigail Smiley-Smith (Abigail Smiley-Smith), titled 'URBAN GLIDE,' in the courtyard of Hôtel de Rohan.

The 2027 Spring/Summer collection by Maison Kitsuné envisions a wardrobe designed for comfortably navigating the urban landscape in peak summer. Inspired by the ingenuity of city dwellers adapting to heat, intense sunlight, and urban environments, the collection unfolds around three core themes: 'Protection,' 'Water,' and 'Escape.' The result is a contemporary summer wardrobe that seamlessly transitions between city and seaside, combining protective features with functional design.

The collection originated from a conversation between Maison Kitsuné co-founder Gildas Loaëc (Gildas Loaëc) and Creative Director Abigail Smiley-Smith (Abigail Smiley-Smith) about how Japanese cities are adapting to increasingly harsh summer conditions. A key source of inspiration was the lightweight workwear worn by construction workers in Tokyo—designed to shield the body from intense sun and heat while maintaining high breathability. Building on this idea, the collection explores clothing that prioritizes comfort, ease of movement, and harmony with the environment.

'Protection' serves as both a practical and conceptual thread throughout the collection. Lightweight technical fabrics, highly breathable structures, cooling-function materials, and relaxed silhouettes create a sense of security that envelops the body without restricting movement. Concepts such as 'wrapping,' 'layering,' 'transparency,' and 'fluidity,' inspired by the works of contemporary artists Christo and Do Ho Suh, are reflected in designs that blur the boundaries between clothing, architecture, and personal space.

'Water' plays a vital visual and material role across the collection. Reflections on water surfaces, waves, and shifting light are translated into prints, jacquards, and textures. A color palette of shimmering blues, deep navies, mineral greys, sun-bleached neutrals, and warm sand tones captures the contrast between the cool shade of the city and the intense heat of midsummer. Gradient treatments, bleach washes, and fade effects further express the dynamic expressions created by sunlight, time, and movement.

Marine culture inspires both functional and aesthetic elements. Details from lobster fishing nets, canvas, and waterproof sheets are reinterpreted through materiality, structure, and functional design. Drawing from surfing and diving wear, the collection introduces garments with cooling functions, windbreakers that change color in response to heat, and the Triangle Tote made with thermoreactive fabric—items that transform according to environmental conditions.

Expanding Maison Kitsuné’s signature perspective of 'from Paris to Tokyo,' this collection also draws inspiration from 'Desa Kitsuné,' the brand’s lifestyle complex in Bali. The island’s serene sense of time is reinterpreted through an urban lens, proposing a wardrobe that combines functionality, comfort, and a sense of escape. Rather than positioning city and nature as opposites, the collection expresses a new lifestyle that freely moves between the two.

'With Urban Glide, we explored how clothing can simultaneously offer both protection and freedom. This collection reflects how people adapt to their surroundings—whether moving through the energetic environment of the city or seeking a brief escape. We aimed to create garments that move with the wearer and respond to their environment.'

This season also introduces collaborations that expand the collection’s universe. Japanese artist En Iwamura reinterprets Maison Kitsuné’s iconic fox as a symbol of 'movement' and 'change.' This character appears across garments, accessories, and the show’s spatial design, playfully expressing the dialogue between nature and the city, tradition and modernity.

'When I received this offer, I found it incredibly stimulating and intriguing. I usually focus on three-dimensional works using clay, but I’ve also been exploring two-dimensional drawings as a way to seek new forms of expression. In that sense, collaborating with fashion was a fresh and unexpected challenge.'

The collaboration with Snow Peak embodies the collection’s concept of seamlessly connecting city and nature. Founded in Japan in 1958, Snow Peak is an outdoor brand known for its philosophy of connecting with nature and its high technical expertise. The two brands have co-created a capsule collection that blends outdoor functionality with everyday usability, proposing a new style that brings outdoor technology into modern urban life.

Additionally, Swedish leather brand ATP Atelier adds a feminine touch through sandals, heels, and leather goods. Footwear brand LONO, known for its barefoot-like comfort, collaborates to express the collection’s theme of connection between body, movement, and environment.

At the Paris Fashion Week show, the garden of Hôtel de Rohan becomes a tranquil urban space where fashion, art, and performance intersect. En Iwamura’s large-scale sculptural works are placed throughout the venue, extending the collection’s exploration of 'movement,' 'change,' and the dialogue between city and nature into the entire space.

Musically, a live choir reinterprets iconic electronic music with original vocal arrangements. Rooted in its identity as a music label—still operating 'Kitsuné Musique'—Maison Kitsuné reinterprets contemporary club culture from a fresh perspective. Familiar tracks performed by chorus create an immersive, enveloping experience for the audience.

Some runway looks are styled with jewelry by Stockholm-based designer Louis Abel, subtly adding sculptural beauty.

Urban Glide proposes a contemporary summer wardrobe that, from Maison Kitsuné’s unique 'from Paris to Tokyo' perspective, pursues environmental adaptability and comfort, merging technical functionality with everyday elegance.
