Since its inception in 1977, the Mainichi Shimbun Corporate Professionals University, organized by The Mainichi Newspapers, has served as a membership-based forum for business professionals active in Chiba Prefecture to learn and network together. The organization plans monthly lectures by prominent figures and training tours.

Our guest for April is television personality and actor Nasubi, who rose to fame in the late 1990s through a television program based on the theme, “Can a person survive on sweepstakes alone?” Titled “'Sweepstakes Life' Nasubi Climbed Mount Everest: A New Frontier Connected by Supporting Fukushima and Volunteering,” he will share behind-the-scenes stories from his “Sweepstakes Life,” where he was left with nothing but his own skin in an apartment, his thoughts on his hometown of Fukushima, and how his life has changed through volunteer and support activities in disaster-stricken areas.

The event will be a talk session format in which Yoshikazu Takeuchi, Chief of the Mainichi Shimbun Chiba Bureau, will ask the guest, Nasubi, for his opinions and stories. We are also opening the event to the general public for the first 60 people to sign up. During the lecture, baked goods and coffee from the venue, Hotel Green Tower Makuhari, will be provided.

Born in 1975, Nasubi is a native of Fukushima City. He broke through in 1998 after appearing in the “Denpa Shonen-teki Kensho Seikatsu” (Denpa Shonen Sweepstakes Life) segment of the variety show “Susunu! Denpa Shonen” (Nippon TV). Since then, he has expanded his career as an actor. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, he has been engaged in long-term activities to support the reconstruction of his home prefecture. In 2016, he successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest on his fourth attempt, aiming to encourage the people of Fukushima. He is also exploring ways to support the next generation, including domestic and international disaster relief activities and the “Tohoku High School Students’ Mt. Fuji Climb” project. He serves as the first Fukushima Environment and Future Ambassador, a Fukushima Prefecture “Attaka Fukushima” Tourism and Exchange Ambassador, an Ishikawa Prefecture Cultural Tourism Ambassador, and a Mountain Day Ambassador.

We invite you to join us for this talk event featuring the multifaceted Nasubi, who wears many hats as a talent, actor, volunteer, tourism ambassador, and mountaineer. We look forward to seeing you there!
