Magic Shields Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture; CEO: Akiji Shimomura; hereinafter 'Magic Shields') announces the official launch today, Monday, June 15, 2026, of 'Koroyawa Mat IV (Four),' the latest addition to its 'Koroyawa®' series of impact-absorbing floors and mats designed to reduce fracture risks from falls.
The 'Koroyawa®' series is a specially structured mat developed to reduce the risk of femoral fractures and other injuries caused by falls among the elderly. It has already been introduced in over 1,600 facilities, including hospitals, special nursing homes for the elderly, and private elderly care homes, and has received high praise.

Features of Koroyawa Mat IV
1. First in the Koroyawa Mat series to adopt a back-sheet structure, enhancing hygiene and cleanability. By covering the block sections on the back with a sheet, back cleaning can now be completed faster and with fewer cleaning supplies compared to Mat III (reducing cleaning time to one-fifth, based on internal testing).
2. Improved edge strength, making it more resistant to lifting and snagging. By improving edge thickness and using a surface material less prone to creasing, edge strength has been increased by over 10 times compared to Mat III. Edge thickness has been reduced by 28% compared to Mat III, further improving resistance to snagging (Mat III: 3.5mm → Mat IV: 2.5mm).
3. Enhanced resistance to shifting during use, further improving safety. Resistance to shifting has improved by 67% compared to Mat III, making it even more stable (based on internal testing).
The newly launched 'Koroyawa Mat IV' features thicker cushion blocks compared to Mat III, reducing not only the risk of femoral fractures but also the risk of head injuries during falls (reducing the risk of severe head injury to one-third compared to standard flooring). By continuing to adopt the highly rated four-sided slope design from Mat III, the product prevents dirt intrusion from the sides. Additionally, the first-time adoption of the back-sheet structure further improves hygiene, cleanability, and ease of use. Previously, some users reported that edges could lift when kicked, but durability tests simulating kicking show that Mat IV achieves over 10 times the durability of the previous series. We encourage you to try the latest 'Koroyawa Mat IV' and experience its functionality firsthand.
Additionally, 11 hospitals and care facilities participated in an early trial of the new 'Koroyawa Mat IV (Four)' as a monitor product. Over 70% responded that they would 'recommend it,' indicating strong support. Key points of high evaluation included: 'the back surface is now water-resistant for daily use,' 'hygienic and easier to clean,' and 'corners are less likely to cause tripping.' The improved usability of the Koroyawa Mat has been highly praised by medical and care professionals.

About Magic Shields Co., Ltd.
Magic Shields Co., Ltd. was established in 2019 as a startup focused on research, development, manufacturing, and sales of new materials and structures called 'Mechanical Metamaterials,' based on automotive engineering and medical science. To reduce fractures from falls among the elderly, which are increasing worldwide, Magic Shields has developed 'Koroyawa®,' a flooring material that combines 'walking stability' and 'impact absorption'—a combination previously considered difficult—using a 'variable stiffness structure' that softens only upon impact. The product is provided to medical institutions, welfare facilities, and some home care settings, with over 1,600 facilities already adopting it. In particular, among hospitals with 500 or more beds—many of which have medical safety committees—nearly 40% of all such hospitals have already adopted 'Koroyawa®'※2, earning high satisfaction even from strict medical safety professionals.
The company's mission is to realize a society where 'everyone can move freely and independently without fear of fractures,' solving fall-related challenges through innovative technology and systems.
