Magic Shields Inc. (Headquarters: Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, CEO: Akira Shitamura) participated in a user-participatory PoC (Proof of Concept) conducted in Denmark from January to March 2026, to verify the acceptance and feasibility of Japanese-made nursing care solutions. The company tested 'Koroyawa®', a shock-absorbing floor and mat designed to reduce the risk of fractures during falls.

This PoC was conducted in collaboration with Will Group Inc. and Public Intelligence of Denmark, with the aim of verifying its implementation feasibility in preparation for European expansion.

The verification involved 35 diverse stakeholders, including professionals such as physical therapists, nurses, and caregivers, IT and security personnel, elderly individuals from Vesthimmerland, and social welfare students. They conducted multifaceted evaluations of its effectiveness, safety, and acceptability.

### ■Why Was It Conducted in Denmark? (Background of the PoC)

Japan is experiencing aging at a pace unparalleled globally, and the nursing care know-how and technologies cultivated there are expected to be utilized in overseas markets facing similar challenges. Europe is also facing increasing aging, leading to a growing need for technology adoption in the elder care sector.

Denmark, in this context, boasts world-class standards in systems, technology, and on-site operations, making it a leader in welfare. Under municipal leadership, an environment conducive to practical and rigorous evaluation of new technologies has been established.

Furthermore, a culture of 'Co-creation,' where citizens, government, and businesses work together to solve issues, is deeply rooted. A significant characteristic is the ability to verify how products are accepted in real living environments.

This PoC was conducted at the Vesthimmerland Living Lab, which replicates living environments, with the cooperation of Public Intelligence.

The insights gained in such an environment serve as reliable evidence to accelerate expansion into Nordic countries and, subsequently, the entire EU, supporting business development in the global elder care domain.

### ■PoC Overview

This PoC was conducted in a simulation format, envisioning actual living environments, to verify the product's effectiveness and implementation feasibility from diverse perspectives.

### ■High Praise from Professionals and Citizens

Through this PoC, 'Koroyawa®' was highly evaluated as an effective solution contributing to the reduction of fracture risks from falls.

Notably, its design, which integrates with the floor and resolves issues of conventional mats such as 'steps,' 'installation,' and 'aesthetics,' was well-received by both professionals and citizens.

Participants provided the following feedback:

* "I think this floor is a very good idea that can significantly reduce injuries from falls." - Physical Therapist * "Sensor-equipped floors can be a substitute for other products that tend to be of inferior quality and feel unhygienic." - Welfare Technology Consultant * "It's a good option for citizens who don't want mats or find floor transitions difficult." - Physical Therapist * "The combination of floor and mat, flexibly adapting to individual living environments, is good." - Citizen Evaluator * "The integrated shock absorption of the floor is highly likely to reduce the risk of fractures when getting out of bed at night." - Physical Therapist

### ■Issues Identified Through This PoC and Future Responses

While high evaluations were received during this PoC, specific points for practical implementation also became clear.

Key aspects for on-site introduction such as hygiene management, durability, adaptation to wet areas like bathrooms and washrooms, and sensor integration were organized, clarifying the challenges that need to be addressed going forward.

By steadily addressing these challenges, the feasibility of implementation in Denmark and other Nordic countries will be further enhanced.

### ■Future Developments

This PoC confirmed the effectiveness and acceptability of 'Koroyawa®' even in Denmark, a leading welfare nation, providing a solid foundation for European expansion.

Going forward, Magic Shields will proceed with pilot introductions and evidence building in Denmark, while also expanding deployment to Nordic and other EU countries, starting from Denmark.

### 【About the Shock-Absorbing Floor & Mat 'Koroyawa®'】

'Koroyawa®' is a specially structured shock-absorbing floor and mat developed with the aim of reducing the risk of injuries such as femoral fractures from falls in the elderly. It has already been introduced in over 1,000 facilities, including hospitals, special nursing homes, and paid elderly homes, and has been well-received. Furthermore, it achieved the No. 1 share in the cushioning mat/cushion category for corporate sales in 2025 (78% share)*1.

We at Magic Shields believe that by preventing fall fractures through 'Koroyawa®,' we can also reduce escalating medical and care costs, contributing to the improvement of human resource shortages and working environments in the medical field. Without resting on our laurels, we will continue to focus on product development and improvement to reduce the risk of fatal fall fractures.

*1 Based on corporate sales performance for the cushioning mat/cushion category from January to December 2025. (From sales data in the catalog of a major wholesale distributor X, which sells to approximately 2,000 companies nationwide)

### ■About Magic Shields Inc.

Magic Shields Inc., established in 2019, is a startup based on automotive engineering and medicine, engaged in the research and development, manufacturing, and sales of new materials and structures called 'Mechanical Metamaterials.' To reduce the fractures caused by falls among the increasing number of elderly people worldwide, Magic Shields has developed 'Koroyawa®,' a flooring material using a 'variable stiffness structure' that softens only upon impact, achieving both 'walking stability' and 'shock absorption' which were previously difficult. It is provided to medical institutions, welfare facilities, and partly for home use, with over 1,000 facilities already having adopted it. Notably, in hospitals with 500 beds or more, which frequently establish medical safety committees, over a quarter (28%) of all such hospitals have already adopted 'Koroyawa®'*2, satisfying even the professionals of strict medical safety measures.

*2 Self-researched as of July 16, 2025 (118 out of 408 hospitals with 500+ beds have adopted it).

Our mission is to realize a society where "everyone can move freely according to their own will, without worrying about fractures," by solving problems related to falls with unique technology and innovative mechanisms.
