Our company supports April Dream, an initiative to make April 1st a day to express dreams. This press release is the dream of Magic Shields Inc.
Magic Shields Inc. (Headquarters: Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture; CEO: Akiji Shimomura) aims to reduce the risk of fractures with 'Koroyawa®', a "floor & mat that softens only when you fall," and realize a world where people can get up no matter how many times they fall.

■ Reasons for wanting to realize this dream
Falls leading to fractures in the elderly are not just injuries. They are events that can significantly change a person's life, leading to conditions such as being bedridden or dementia.
In Japan, one million people experience fall-related fractures every year. Behind each of these incidents lies the reality of lives drastically changed for individuals and their families, and the loss of what was once an ordinary daily life.
Falls cannot be reduced to zero, no matter how many countermeasures are taken. Yet, the reality that falls drastically change lives continues unchanged.
We believe we can change this reality.
To be able to get up no matter how many times you fall.
And to protect people worldwide from accidents and injuries, creating an environment where they can live with peace of mind.
This aspiration is our origin.
■ Magic Shields' initiatives
We believe it is necessary not only to "prevent falls" but also to "create an environment where even if you fall, you won't suffer serious injury."
To achieve this, we developed 'Koroyawa®', an impact-absorbing floor & mat with a special structure that softens only when you fall.
It is hard and stable like a floor when walking, but absorbs impact during a fall to reduce fracture risk. It simultaneously achieves "walking comfort" and "impact absorption," two conflicting performances that were previously difficult to reconcile, proposing a new approach to fall prevention: "protecting even when falling."
Currently, 'Koroyawa®' is beginning to spread, mainly in medical and nursing care facilities, but what we truly want to achieve is a future beyond that.
A society where everyone can continue to move according to their own will, without excessively fearing falls. Towards this realization, we will further evolve this technology and deliver it to more people.

■ Towards realizing the dream
Our goal is to expand environments where people can move with peace of mind not only in medical and nursing care facilities but also in homes, cities, public spaces, and even outdoors.
To prevent not only fall-related fractures but all major injuries, and to realize a society where everyone can continue to move according to their own will. And in the future, to make it commonplace for no one worldwide to become bedridden due to femoral neck fractures. That is the future we envision.
Furthermore, we will challenge ourselves to reduce injuries themselves in a wide range of fields, including infants and sports.
We will realize a "world where you can get up no matter how many times you fall" by continuously delivering products to the world that act as a "shield" to protect people worldwide from injuries.
■ About Magic Shields Inc.
Magic Shields Inc., established in 2019, is a startup that conducts research and development, manufacturing, and sales of new materials and structures called "mechanical metamaterials" based on automotive engineering and medicine. To reduce fall-related fractures in the elderly, which are increasing worldwide, Magic Shields has developed 'Koroyawa®', a flooring material that uses a "variable stiffness structure" that is soft only when you fall, achieving both "walking stability" and "impact absorption" which were previously difficult to reconcile. It is provided to medical institutions, welfare facilities, and some home users, with over 1,000 facilities already having adopted it. In particular, in hospitals with 500 or more beds, which often have medical safety committees, over a quarter (28%) of all such hospitals have already introduced 'Koroyawa®' *2, satisfying even strict medical safety professionals.
*2 According to our own research as of July 16, 2025 (118 facilities out of 408 hospitals with 500 or more beds have introduced it)
Our mission is to solve fall-related issues with original technology and innovative mechanisms, aiming to realize a society where "everyone can move freely according to their own will without worrying about fractures."
